Can't wait to get up to my place in Dickens county as I am blown away with the amount of rain and frequency. Last year only 2 inches through September then we had 9 inches over 1 week. My place was a jungle through the deer season. Damage was done however as deer never came to feeders, I never saw a fawn and I had one covey of quail that I randomly saw and never with gun in hand,
This year over 9 1/2 inches to date with 4.5 inches in the last 10 days. Thinking the timing is great for all my forest friends. Cover should be exceptional, Does should be in great shape with plenty of natural protein for supporting this years fawns and this moisture normally stimulates hordes of insects for my resident quail.
Hoping we have a rebound for at 75 I'm not in a situation to have too many off years. Hope we all have a better season than last year,

I sure hope you are right. We’re waiting for the roads to dry out before we make the trek to Dickens county.

That's about 100 miles north of here. Many times I watched the T-storm cells pass just to the north of us. Glad your drought conditions have improved!

Our place east of Dickens looks to have gotten timely rains this year. (Over 14 Inches between April and September). Birds are being reported everywhere. lots of birds being seen on trail cams by deer hunters but they do look to be small coveys of 8-15 birds though, so still not gonna kill a bunch of them. But it sounds like we will have enough to run dogs on and keep them interested. Good luck everyone! I'm going in a couple of weeks to fill deer/hog feeder by camp and put up 2 50 gallon Quail feeders, I want to attempt to help the birds we do have, make it through the winter. Planning to add 4 more quail feeders next year.

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Now bow hunting at my place in Dickens and have been seeing at least 3 different coveys of 15 each or more. It's been quite a few years to have these numbers. So looking forward to working my dogs on them..

Well, we had to cancel our opening weekend hunt due to 5 inches of rain Tuesday & Wednesday. I'm not complaining, rain is welcome no matter when or what it messes up. We'll still get out there in a couple weeks to fill deer feeder at camp and set up the two quail feeders. Then we have one more early quail hunt chance for Thanksgiving weekend, If that doesn't work out, I'm leaving my deer hunters alone until Jan.1st. (I may sneak in one weekend to shoot a doe or 2 if I don't get one Thanksgiving but no more quail hunting till Jan.1st). I want to see my deer hunters smack a good one this year (or 2 or 3)

Now rifle hunting at my place in Dickens county and am thrilled at the prospects!!!
We are seeing Deja vu all over again. We have been seeing quail numbers that reflect the banner years of the past. At least 3 to 4 coveys of 10 to 20 birds on my 160 acres. I'm pressed to fill my deer tag and get focused on these amazing birds.
With my Spinones. My best buddy Riley and my new addition Shiloh I'm expecting the next 2 months to be filled with memories.
