My youngest has moved up there, for now...long story. We're headed up to help with two little ones shortly after she delivers her third. I think they're crazy, but folks have been doing this for thousands of years, if not more.

In the off chance they actually stay there for a while, again, long story, does anyone have experience with hunting up there, I'd say primarily deer? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Bangor would be home base. She has the wife of a moose guide in her Bible study, so that's good.

It would be me and her. Again, you guessed it - long story. grin Of the 4, she's hunted with me the most, which ain't all that much, but I do think she gets it.

Have been going up from RI where I live for about 25 years. Moose hunting is a draw thing. Start applying.

Deer population pretty thin & no feeders (I have a lease in TX).

Fly fishing for wild brook trout good in mid June then again in October.

Baiting allowed for bears.

Grouse & woodcock hunting is fun but you need a dog.

I think that's one of the states where you have to take everything to a registration station too. Don't even get me started about that.

In Maine, they allow party hunting. So if you can get your daughter or son-in-law to put in and they draw, you can shoot the moose as long as they are with you. up

Never been. Have always wanted to go. Hopefully you like lobster. Try one of those lobster and clam bakes. Please share pics.

To be determined

One does not simply buy a moose tag. They by drawing and many people go 20+ years and never get one. My suggestion for Maine is to hunt bear. Lots of bear and lots of bear guides up there.

Lobster; Moose; and Grouse. All real good eating. Highest priced items on any menu. Happy hunting!

Of course, you could/should put in as well but residents have better odds. Good luck.

not sure if ducks are your thing but there is some out of this world sea duck hunting there. That is my second favorite state right behind Texas. My wife and I are planning on retiring in New Hampshire. Bear hunting and sea ducking!

Have fun and stay warm!

I spent some time many years ago near waterville and fished a lake, had a blast out of a canoe and caught some decent sized bass.

My brother has done some deer hunting up there, its sparse numbers (as was said) and I think (I could be mistaking this) he was part of a "drive hunt" up there for deer. That could have been in Massachusetts though, not sure if my memory might be failing me there.

I watched an episode of Meat Eater the other day and they went to Maine to hunt Sika deer. Apparently there is a healthy population in certain areas and since they're invasive you can kill quite a few. I don't know anything about that except for what I learned on the show, though.

I'm not a real big duck hunter, but I've always been interested in sea duck hunting. up

That was Maryland not Maine

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Hunted with a friend from Penobscot for several seasons in the 70's. Paper companies own huge acreage and allowed hunting at that time. We stalked and still hunted for miles. All deer were legal bucks does and fawns, terrain is dark timber and huge bogs. As noted populations of deer seemed sparse but some huge Bucks are harvested, Lotsa of bear, grouse. snow shoes and moose. I remember staring at a moose rub and was awed that the rub was about 2 feet above my head and I'm 5'6. Some really huge animals. I shot a button buck that they called a skipper.

I stand corrected.
