Travis at RBros has built me 2 custom rifles....Great end to end buying experience and they are beyond accurate...also, I saw where he is moving from Oregon to Texas. Good luck!

Many years ago i rebarreled my early Ruger No.1 to a longer heavier grade barrel. Was a little bit to
spend. 300 Win didnt have that much barrel erosion under the scope, and opted to rebarrel it. It only likes now
heavy bullets, 200+ grnd loads. Not sure what your wanting it for, but im pleased with mine. Took a nice elk with
it in 2009 in NM. The barrel was not threaded, and barrel has a 11deg crown, not flush like early ones were.
More info at McCowen barrels.

No complaints here. Shame Ruger doesnt offer more a selection of No.1's today. Expense, labor is an issue
today what i hear!.

good luck with your choice.

I'll also recommend that you look into a custom single-shot with Ruger #1 being the top choice. I switched a few years back & my bolt rifles have stayed in the safe ever since. Despite what some say, a custom No. 1 can be made to shoot just as accurate as hunting bolt guns.

BTW: Mark Pharr in Round Rock at https://www.tumbleweedsrifles.com builds excellent custom rifles.

What kind of hunting do you normally do? This would determine my build.

If your a hard core western hunter, I would suggest a completely different rifle than if you only hunt whitetail down south or hunt a lot or African game.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

When asked how many rifles I own, I typically respond, " I'm just one away from being satisfied".

Hint!

BTW,

I''ve a dozen or so Browning's and at least 6 are X-Bolts. All are shooters.

ya!

I recommend going to the DSC Convention in January and talking to all the custom builders to see and handle what you like.

Good idea especially if you are not sure exactly what you want. A lot of "custom rifles" just are not my style and others are what I consider perfect.

just my 2 cents. I have had the chance to hunt all over the world along with many states in the USA. Ibex, goats, elk, and on and on.

Years ago I bought a Tikka T3 300 win mag. 180 grain Winchester load. I do not remember the exact price but it was not expensive. Put a Leopold 3x9 scope on it with a tripod. I have taken more animals than I can count with this rifle. I have second guessed myself many times on why I have not had a custom rifle built but then I realize WHY?? If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I have no problem with anyone who buys a custom rifle but I wonder if it really makes that much of a difference? It has not for me.

Figure out what caliber
Figure out how heavy you want the gun to be the end
Suppressed yes or no

Once you know this find a stock or order one asap

Alamo Precision. I own two. Have two more on order. Use all quality components. They will compete with any custom rifle at a better price. Customer service is excellent. Very friendly and helpful.

I’d also recommend J.G. on here. I do not own a rifle he’s built but hope to one day. Jason is more knowledgeable about guns, ammo and shooting than anyone I’ve ever spoken to. He will build you a rifle, develop a load and teach you how to shoot it. Turnkey! And he’s a great guy.

My last build was a 6.5/284 built by West Texas Ordinance, Clayton Smith. WTO is located at Brownfield. Couldn't be happier with their work.
