A friend called and said he wanted a rifle built for am employee (must be a very special one).

He said I need a rifle for him to just about do it all. I said "coyotes, hogs, whitetail, Axis, Pronghorn as well was Mule Deer, Aoudad, and Elk?"

He said yes. I know that's asking a whole lot out of one rifle. I said well an elk load will kill them all, but it also might ruin an entire quarter on the lighter animals. I'm thinking 7 Rem Mag, a light load and a full house load. He said do it. Rifle, load development twice, DOPE twice, two types of ammo. Scope it, and call me when the entire system is done.






From the 168 Classic Hunter 100 yard zero to the 180 gr VLD-Hunting zero, dial the scope down .1 Mil, and Left .1 Mil

I was surprised that was the only amount of zero difference.

I picked a powder for the 168's and was hoping to not have them screaming fast. I was hoping to have a 7 Rem Mag shooting like a 7mm-08 A.I. and I did get there. Something very abnormal for me is I started at a very low charge, and eased up. I would normally have a much higher start charge.

I cleaned the barrel and then picked a different powder. What is normal is to get a full case of powder and hopefully also making velocity.

168 gr Classic Hunter 2780 fps MV

180 gr VLD-Hubting 3050 fps MV.











I am also sending him home with the exact same powder lots, and enough bullets for one reload of each type bullet.

Quite the assignment and looks like you nailed it. Basically a 7 Gaymoor and a full on 7 Mag...that's a cool project and another awesome camo job by JG. I haven't disliked one yet...keep the streak alive.

Good looking rifle and loads Jason. I have worked up loads for a couple rifles like that about 200fps separating them. It works well, almost like having 2 guns, the 6.5-284 is what I currently have 2 loads for one at 2700fps the other 2920fps. I shoot it more with the lighter load.

Have done that also. I was fortunate enough to have the same point of impact at 100 yards as well by pure chance.

At first I was going to ask why would you paint a rifle that you can order already painted. But after visiting the AG website, I like your camo pattern more 👍

JG, did you have AG Comp do something different on the stock? I have built on 8 of those and they all were right at 2 lbs or just over that. Losing half a pound would be good.

I always order the stocks with no color. That way I can control how they look. And the customer gets what they want.

And it is Cerakote, not paint
