Had a getting ready for opener weekend. Inventoried cabin supplies, got rid of the boar that's been cleaning up the corn that gets slung outside my feed pen and confirmed zero on paper at 100, steel at 400. Wind was 0-20, tricky, every shot is a lesson. [Linked Image]

Steak over mesquite coals, called it a weekend after checking fluids on Ranger. We ready.

Good stuff. We were going tomorrow so the wife could shoot but it's going to rain, so now it's postponed till Thursday.

I shoot my rifles year round, but I'm always looking for another reason. Gotta be sure all is well for game time. Good luck Thursday.

Yes, the Mohawk is my "Ride along in the Ranger don't care if it gets covered in dust hog killing" rifle. It is a fantastic shooter, I've done a lot to it. Timney Trigger, sanded barrel channel for full float and ordered bottom metal from a supplier that makes it in steel and aluminum. I ordered it in aluminum and it fit great after I ground the screws down. The 18" barrel is handy and in .308 it's a hammer. I shoot some really good Hornady ammo in my go to whitetail .308 set up. For the Mohawk I'll shoot just about anything and it does great. This hog was right at 150 yards. You can see the stand elevated on the hill. Hog had his head down facing me and I put the red dot right at the base of his head and back just a bit. This is one of my all time favorite rifles. I just went to the scope you see on it, a VXR Patrol with an illuminated reticle in 3-9.

Bucks are starting to act like it's getting close to that time of the year. Smaller bucks sparring, new bucks showing up that have not been seen, eating more.......they are still in bachelor groups. That will change soon.

Looks like the feeder pen was between you and the boar. Did you have to shoot through the mesh panels to hit him? Nice shootin'

Yes. Done it several times. You'll notice there is a whole lot more air than wire, thankfully.
