…ever shot a left handed shotgun or rifle? I’ve invited several of my right handed friends to shoot my left handed stuff. They all look at me aghast, as if I was asking them to give up their first born. I’ve shot right handed guns my entire life, including autoloaders. Only in the last few years have I purchased some left hand rifles and shotguns. Would you hunt with a “wrong handed” gun?

A buddy of mine that is right handed but left eye dominant shoots lefty. His dad bought him a true left handed 1911 made by Randall. It was interesting to say the least, I definitely need to practice with my left hand more often.

Never shot a "left handed gun", but I do practice shooting left handed. I have even shot a number of deer, pigs, coyotes, etc left handed. If said animal pops up on my right, it's often easier and quicker, to switch to left handed shooting rather than to turn my whole body. Much less movement too.

I don't own a left handed firearm because I never saw any need for one and I shoot both left and right handed with equal enthusiasm.

Never shot a left handed gun, and am left handed. I can't shoot bullpups and a few other platforms, but never really had an issue with anything I've picked up. At the bench I love shooting a right handed bolt rifle. Single feeding and removing spent cases is sooo much easier. I think it would feel odd to pick up and lefty gun at this point.

Sure, as long as it shoots straight! I shoot left handed rifles all the time.

^This. I've drilled lots of animals shooting out of a stand to my right. It's much easier and quicker to shoot support side. Heck, I even shot the bobcat I mounted "gangster style". The cat came out behind me over my left hand shoulder. I was in a pop up ground blind, and he stopped and was looking at me. I pushed the rifle out the window behind me to the left. The only way to shoot was with the rifle turned 90 degrees on it's side (scope tilted to the left). The cat was only about 30 yards. He was facing to the right, and I put the cross hairs about an inch left behind his shoulder and let the 300 blk out bolt gun eat. The rifle wasn't even mounted on my shoulder, it was on my bicep. Cat went 10 yards and dropped. I hit him right behind the shoulder where I had aimed.

I own both right handed and left handed guns. Some guns ( like Autoloading shotguns ) I can go either way on if they are left handed or not. I currently have a LH Benelli M2, but aside from getting powder in my eye never saw a big difference in shooting a left handed shotgun vs. a right handed one. Same goes for Auto-loading rimfires like a Marlin Model 60 or a Ruger 10/22.

Big Game rifles.....I like to own a left handed bolt gun. I have owned and shot right handed rifles ( still own a few that are "swing rifles" that I may loan out to my kids, wife or friends ) but MY guns are left handed. Functionally, they are just a little bit better due to the bolt being on the "correct" side, but it does not mean a right handed rifle is unusable to a southpaw. I can rip off shots from a right handed bolt gun pretty damn fast.

Right-handed, left eye dominant here. 'Been shooting left-handed all of my adult life. I can work a bolt pretty dang quick with it being on either side, but I can definitely load and re-load a right-handed rifle much quicker. I own both.

Right-handed, left eye dominant (or at least I Was). I shoot lefty. Never shot or owned a left-handed gun. Almost 64yo and even though my right eye is now the strongest, I don't think I could comfortably change if I wanted to.

I'm right handed and typically shoot right handed, but several years ago I had a cataract in my right eye and switched to shooting left handed until I got it fixed. Rifle and handgun was no problem and I adjusted to left handed pretty quickly, but I never did get the left handed shotgun shooting figured out.

Really not a problem unless the rifle or shotgun, (usually shotgun), has a right or left hand cast. Most off the shelf guns have no cast. Over the years of reading this forum, many left handed shooters shot right handed guns for quite a while before investing in left handed.

Same here. You just have to remember to aim with your left eye rather than your right and practice enough that it doesn’t feel awkward.

Left or right handed rifles shoot both from wither shoulder or at least did until I got a defib on the left side so now just shoot right handed. But eft handed rifles from the right side takes a little getting used to but easy enough to do.

I don't know what I am. Write and throw right handed, swing a bat/golf club left handed. Right eye dominant. Never shot a left handed gun.

Pass the gravy.

Because being able to see the port makes it obviously easier single feeding and removing extracted cases. It just can't be easier doing it blind.

You can see the extraction port easily when shooting a left handed bolt gun. It’s not doing it blind

Over the years I have hunted with my left handed father. My mentor also. He has always favored pump or lever action rifles. He has always been able to use my bolts or auto shotguns. I finally was able to get him a fine left handed bolt rifle and auto shotgun. He is 88 now and enjoys his new weapons. Still has a zeal for hunting and getting out. Left handed people are much more ambidextrous by necessity.

I remember back in the day when lefties used Levers, Pumps or Semi-autos, as if a left handed person was incapable of firing a right handed bolt gun.

Had an uncle that had a Remington LH 700 BDL, just like the one Robert Deniro had in “The Deer Hunter”. He was the only person I knew who had a left handed bolt gun. I got my first LH Ruger in 1997. We’re not many manufacturers who produced them, Remington, Ruger and Weatherby mainly. Browning and Winchester would have a run every now and then and I understand Sako did as well

I am left handed shooter, writer, and fork lifter. I used to shoot right handed bolt guns like a Model 70 30-06 and so forth, I got my first LH shotgun - an 11-87 and it took a few shots to see how cool it was to not get the stuff in the eyes, etc. I now have LH bolts and an A400. It has made shooting more fun - in my mind anyway.

Never shot a specific left handed gun, but have shot my shotgun and rifles with my weak side. Not hard, just slower.

Growing up, I didn't even know there were left-hand rifles. I didn't get my first lefty until Ruger released a lefty GSR in the early 2010's.
