Bird hunting today was very slow, but rabbits were everywhere. I was putting my gun away when my youngest daughter asked if she could shoot one. I said sure, as long as you clean it and eat it. She didn't hesitate.

Anyway, my gun was too big for her so I had to help her hold it up. Said "Shoot when that bead's on the head." 2 seconds later BOOM.

Then she says "Um Dad I dunno how to clean a rabbit, can you show me." I love these days.

Rabbit hunting has always been one of my most favorite things to do, especially love rabbit hunting with kids. The hunt, teaching them how to clean, and then how to cook them up!

This little girl has always wanted the heart of every animal we've killed together since she was a toddler. She said "Dad, what does rabbit heart taste like." I said "I dunno baby, I've eaten hundreds of rabbits but have never eaten a rabbit heart. Would you like to share this little rabbit heart with me?" She said "Sure, why not."

Life is good....

That she is man, and so is her brother. Bought him a new pair of hunting boots last year that were too big for him so he couldn't wear them, this year he can't get them on.

That’s a trophy rabbit! Cottontails and jack rabbits were plentiful enough to shoot a brick of 22’s a night in west Texas when I was a kid. That’s good practice.
