I had this guy at 58 yards last night. 50 yards is my max comfort for my bow setup. I am proficient to 60, but felt it was too much of a push last night. Alas, he got a pass. The more I look at him the more a missed opportunity stings this morning. Why do they always look more impressive when they are angling away than broadside or head-on?

Nice buck, what county? They look bigger from behind due to perception reference to backward facing body vs forward. Either way, looks like a nice mature buck, hope you close the gap on him...

Rear view is definitely very deceiving, and Ive never heard any logical explanation why. Do you not have pics of him with a better view. He looks really nice.
He would be about 54 feet too far for most, including me and my xbow.

for some reason they always look bigger from the back. Good looking buck there though. As long as he didn't know you were watching i doubt his routine will change. Perhaps a bit of hand corn trail back toward your stand location if you are around there a good bit. I had one buck that would watch feeders from a distance sometimes for an hour but not go there unless he smelled a doe he wanted. when in velvet he would be there but once he shed he became much more careful. Started putting some corn about 60 yards from the feeder and he would eat that fairly often. Just a thought.

He is definitely cagey and king of the brush in this pasture; I don't have a decent head on or broadside shot of him. There were five other bucks and they all kept their distance except for an 8 that was only slightly smaller and seemed to be about the same age class. It was a fun night; saw lots of scraping, rubbing, and a pretty good sparring match.
Brown Co for those that asked. The does came in at dusk and except for two younger bucks, no one paid them any attention.
