I want to get either a BB gun or pellet gun for my 6 yo son. Something he can shoot in the backyard. We have a 1 acre lot. He has a savage 22 that fits him well but it’s difficult to go shooting as much as I would like. Therefore I’m looking to get him something he can shoot at home. I want him to be able to learn he fundamentals of shooting and work on accuracy so I’m looking for an air rifle that’s scaled down for a small kid. He has a daisy red Ryder but he cant shoulder it correctly due to its size. It’s too big for him. Any recommendations on what might work best for him?

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I started with a Daisy Buck around that age, shorter stock than a Red Ryder but same power and a lot of capacity. I must have shot a million BBs through that thing, definitely good way to get better at shooting.

I still have my Daisy Cub from 1962, don't know if they still make that model. It's shorter than the RR.

I had same issue few years ago for a relative. My solution was I took a Daisy buck model from Walmart and grabbed a circular saw and cut about 2.5” off. Made it usable with the kids short arms. Its only like a $35 gun.

If the 22 fits him get some of the Aquilla super colibres. They are generally quieter than a pellet rifle and same power level. The bull actually very much resembles a pellet from a pellet rifle.

RC, I love those things. I use them, in town, to practice trigger pull. Quieter than a 22 short but not great for accuracy. I have a steel plate that leans forward. I put the targets in front of it and lead is directed toward the ground. I prefer the powderless shorts for quietness.
Agree on them for training a kid on trigger pull. No “ears” needed.
But, not too easy to find these days.

Could also look at the cci quiet. About the same noise as a pelet gun.

I would lie to find more of the shorts but can seldom find them.
