FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) — Ed Currie, the South Carolina hot pepper expert who crossbred and grew the Carolina Reaper that’s hotter than most pepper sprays police use to subdue unruly criminals, has broken his own world record with a pepper that’s three times hotter.

Pepper X was publicly named the hottest pepper in the world on Oct. 9 by the Guinness Book of World Records, beating out the Reaper in Currie’s decadelong hunt to perfect a pepper that he says provides “immediate, brutal heat.”

Currie said when he first tried Pepper X, it did more than warm his heart.

I can't eat peppers, I ate one of them chips and only lasted 3 1/2 mins.

I'll bet someone will bring a sample to the deer camp this year. I like heat but there is a limit on how much and that is way over my limit.

This guy's basically manufacturing chemical weapons in the form of peppers now.

I wish I could tolerate hot peppers as I love the flavor, but the burn almost puts me into cardiac arrest... I get the hiccups and all kinds of other reactions.

I love it. Growing peppers fascinates me, and I enjoy seeing people pushing the envelope of heat.

I believe it. I spent some time and money on a decent garden, once, with some basic pepper plants, and I can’t wait to get back into it.

For a few years, I grew several hundred pepper plants/yr, wide variety. Big gardens. Same with tomatoes. Then I grew several thousand/year with more variety. Was in the process of building a big green house with my best friend in hopes of selling to chain stores some day, but death/fate gets in the way sometimes.

I love growing and eating hot peppers. Hot, but edible.

Always wanted to grow my own, can it/bottle it, and serve something that people will like with an original flavor profile unique to South Texas.

I did that on a personal level and it was fun.

I love growing peppers and I grew some of his Carolina Reapers this year, their a beautiful pepper but I touched my tongue to one and I hated life for about an hour afterwards but I’ll be growing the new one as well when he offers seeds. Peppers in general are a pretty plant but peppers don’t agree with my guts
