Been wanting to consolidate from 4 safes down to 1. I’ve strongly been considering a 10 foot shipping container on a concrete pad so I can take it with me. I have an idea for adding security to the walls that I’m not going to discuss openly, and the interior will be insulated and framed. I’ll use the metal peg board for unlimited storage, and have a good work bench. Nothing on the floor, everything painted white, and a few LED lights should suffice. I’ll run a window unit for HVAC to hopefully keep the moisture at bay.
Thoughts?

My vault was shot with 2" of closed cell foam. I told the foam guys I wanted fire protection. And that's what they said it needed. If you recall, my vault is sheeted on the inside with 1/4" plate steel. Magnets and hooks is what the rifles hang on.

I see what you’re saying, I just don’t like my wife, kids, dogs or guns not under my immediate watch at night
It’ll take my next house to do it the way I want
A friend of mine built a safe room/gun room
3, 10” of concrete walls and bank vault style door…took a crane to hang it

Would the window unit be a weak point security wise?

Go with a mini-split. Only a small hole.

Ordinarily yes, but there will be no windows, and the unit would be caged on both the exterior and interior

Just jealous!!!! No really useful comment but if i could have a setup that nice, then I think there will at least be one sport/shelf/display case for something fancy. As of this moment, I don't own anything that would warrant such a thing. But it would give me a good excuse to get something like the fancy 1911 of my dreams.

I dont think there are many safes that will survive a house fire, and even safe rooms may not protect well as they are essentially dutch ovens. I think secure it has right ideology. I just need my oldest to graduate so I can turn her room in to a hunting room as far as connex, spray foam and dehumidifiers and you should be good

I would think the a/c installation and the locks used would be the weak points. If you could somehow further limit access to the doors and the locks on them, you might enhance your security in a meaningful way. Parking something large and heavy in front to those doors might work, but I don't have any ideas that would make it less inconvenient for you than it would be to an aspiring thief. Maybe there are locks available that would suffice, but I would not know of any.
One way to make your cooling system less of a security risk would be to install a small (or large, if you like) residential system instead of window units.

question: where do you find a 10' shipping container? 10 foots are mostly only sold as new. Guy in a Royse City has them for $4300 delivered. Or I can get a 1 trip 20 foot for $2100 delivered. I think I’ll go that route. You’ll have to get into my shop before you can attemp access into the container. The container would have a safe door installed. It would be hiding in plane sight, so to speak. Paint to match the shop will hide it even more.

Well then, I don't see how you can go wrong. Personally, I'd avoid the window a/c unit but it sounds like you've thought it through.
I might be in the market for a shipping container myself, but I'd just want it for general storage. A ten-footer would be plenty big enough, but a twenty-footer for half as much sounds much better.

Yeah it’s a much better price. I’ll probably go with the 20, use 10 for safe room and 10 for storage of all hunting gear. I’m about to be parking the truck in the shop so it would make loading and unloading very convenient.

I have a 20 foot one on my rural property. I don’t Live there. The sellers welded a shield over the lock area. I have to hook the lock up into it by feel but no problem. I keep a lot of tools and my 4 wheelers in it. In the summer it gets dang hot inside. When you open it, step back.

They sell vents that are made for containers. Do yourself a favor and add some to your unit. On my old place it came with a container, I stored a lot of stuff in there and it ruined everything that wasn't made out of metal. Wood, books, furniture, etc. all had mildew from the sweatbox atmosphere.

Had a buddy’s uncle that built one at his house. His walls were 2x6 studs and he had sand poured between the studs floor to ceiling for fire protection.
