Still slow here. Had a couple of big migration groups but not much. Hopefully they show up today.

Our hunting in Coleman County slowed down yesterday after the front hit. Before that it was lights out.

Eurasians are much bigger in hand, larger wings and tails and overall more feathery than morning dove. But the breast are just slightly bigger and the meat looks identical. I'm sure they will eat pretty good.

The whitewings invaded Central Texas over the weekend. I was in my buddies pasture Friday afternoon helping with a hydraulic line on a skid loader and they were flying over in droves. Went back Saturday afternoon with my shotgun and shot enough for lunch on Sunday. It looked to me like a migration since this area doesn't really hold many doves and these were all just flying by, not coming into any type of feed or water. I'm guessing I saw between 300 and 500 birds each day. The main flight pattern was SE to NW which seems odd to me at this time of year, but I admit to knowing very little about whitewings.

I was out on Sat for archery and saw a limit in a group. Looks like they are moving down now with that front

Hunted Haskell and Throckmorton 10/14 & 10/15. Still some birds but even the difference between Saturday and Sunday was noticeable with being much less birds on Sunday. My guess is the front moved a bunch of birds out, but didn’t bring any birds in at the moment. Need another push from some northern birds.

The only time I have white wings here in Wise Co is during the fall and overwinter. They get thicker every year.

Haven't seen hardly any MD of numbers for several years around here.

Trying again to post photo from our good hunt in central Texas on Sunday. [Linked Image]

We were hunting on a new sunflower field I planted on the Leon river bottom in Hamilton County. It has been a strange deal, I have had two lights out hunts with what I think are migratory birds. They don’t stay long. I have some other places where birds have been all season nearby. The sunflowers were 6 to 8 feet tall in June in the photo below. I was pretty amazed for how little rain we had. There’s so much of them left I’m hoping they last till the December season, but we will see. Dove seem to like the river bottom in the winter time for some reason.[Linked Image]

Man, we need hunters in eastern Medina county.

Good to hear a lot of THF'ers have good dove numbers in the second half of October. We've had great numbers til first weekend of October, then the usual drop off as the locals were hammered since Sept 1st.

We're seeing a lot more birds now than even last weekend. Not 2nd split lights-out numbers but plenty for folks to shoot a bunch of shells. Whether they can hit the birds is something else.

Don't think they are northern birds, guessing south Texas birds stirred around by the storms and fronts the last few weeks. Having the area's remaining crops harvested/turned under, etc helps as well.

Hard to watch birds coming to the sunflower field and not have BMACK hunters jumping at the chance to pop birds & be home by 8 pm or earlier. Last 4 years we were turning folks away.

At the ranch a few miles south of Llano and we've seen a good amount of Dove today.....haven't hunted yet but it's in the plans.

Also flushed a covey of Quail driving around in the SxS and that was a welcome sight to see....at least 8 birds in the covey.

One field in Bell County is bare now. They all went some where! A second location has some birds. Was in the wrong place this morning. Later I drove to another field about 8:45 and doves were all over the road. Must have been 50.
