Great write up! Congrats on the moose. Newfs really are just about the most friendly shirt off their back type of people you will ever meet. Read a study once that found that per capita these 5 things were true about Newfs:

1. They are the poorest people in Canada
2. They give more to charity than anyone else in the country
3. They drink more than anyone in the country
4. They get into more physical fights than anyone in the country
5. They have more sex than anyone in the country.

Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil.

^^ grin Regarding the drinking, I was surprised how well the Pentecostals have done where we were. The churches are big. At least two of the guides are Pentecostal, including mine, so he didn't share "a wee dram" with me after a successful hunt, although I offered. Hard liquor sold at the gas station though. up

Bite the bullet and get the randfinding binos. Once you've had them, you won't be happy with just plain binos. Think of all the money spent on this trip let alone your other trips and the price of the binos isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.

You will like the plain Swarovski binoculars. Much lighter than the range finding binocs. For spot and stalk type hunting traveling as light as possible keeps me in the game longer. For a bow hunter a small handheld rangefinder in my experience is a lot more convenient to use. It needs to be tied to you on a lanyard to avoid losing it.

Great recap. Shame about the missed shot. I would have thought it impossible to miss an animal of that size. At least it didn’t turn into a wounded animal track.

I’m of the opinion that shot placement is even more critical on a large animal because of their size and power. I was aiming for a low lung/heart shot and the arrow sailed low. Very glad this was the scenario instead of a brisket shot.

Still, it sucks. I’ve replayed it a million times in my head and I cannot find fault in my shot or follow thru

It’s being processed now and will be shipped to a facility in Tulsa. From there we either pick it up or have it shipped down to our homes.

264 lbs of meat is what is coming home

Some have an accent so thick that you'd swear they're speaking gaelic. The most helpful guy In camp, the cook's husband, I could pick out about every 5th word.

You got every 5th word? Did better than I could deciphering the language.

They do speak a different English than we do for sure.

Good write up and congratulations on an experience most of
Us will never taste.

Did you get the weapons back/found?

Non-stop flights are great for hinting trips, but i realize not all places are served non-stop.

Yep, you tell a good story. I avoided it for awhile cause of the length and when I finally started it took me a few days to get through it. The pics were a huge plus. Who took the pics when he was so close? It seems that would have hurt your chances for success. Good job on doing the gutting. Thanks for posting all this.
