I have a barrel that does not like to be dirty. At around 70-80 rounds its tanks bad. Bartlein 5R. Past experience has told me +/- 250 is where I should expect to see that.

Bad like 2” groups go to 6-7” groups. Clean right then at the range and back to 2” groups.

My 7 mag with a Shilen barrel is like that. Only one out of the 40 or so rifles that I own.

Are the 2" groups the best the rifle can do under optimal conditions?

Buzz it is a new barrel sitting around 350 rounds.

You didn't mention what cartridge it was chambered in. If it is a high intensity cartridge and you are at close to book max back it off a bit and see if that improves anything.

Not all barrels are created equal. The good news is you know how to solve this issue, clean it.

2" is pretty horrible

I had a double rifle I built that had one barrel that shot horribly once dirty, and that line came fast! Talk about a PITA

2” at 500 yards is not horrible. It’s far from the best but not horrible. I guess I should have clarified in the original post.

Sunday, and historically I perform poor under pressure then make excuses. I’m going for the big plate!

You might have to venture over to the 5” plate a bit…..last shoot took 21 pts. to make the shoot off.

how do you remember this chit? I'm going straight to the smally.

That might be a mistake in 10-15 mph winds, Buzz. Last time a couple guys went straight for the smaller targets in the shoot off and missed and had trouble catching up to the ones that stayed on the big target.
