Chachos (north central, off of I10 and Callaghan) used to be my go to, but that was 20 years ago. Chris Madrid's is more central. I would drive out of my way to go to Chris Madrid's for the cheddar cheesy with jalapenos.

What kind of food are you looking for? I’m not picky, just want to try places that I won’t find elsewhere.

I don't know if you ever been to a Pluckers, it's out of Austin but are now spreading across the state good wings and you must try the fried pickles. Great place to watch a game.
Alamo Cafe is a good place to get Tex-Mex, Mexican food should never be overpriced, and that's why we like this place.
El Bucanero is a good place for traditional Mexican food heavy on the seafood. If you're being adventurous you might give it a shot.
Adongs is a Asian food place that we like. Not a big spot, but has great vermicelli bowls with seared pork or beef.
Sea Island is always a solid place for seafood. We like this place a lot.
All these places are just regular places to get food, not uppity at all. If you're a real foodie I can suggest some of those spots.

If you like good Mexican food and very good Margarita's with a view you need to go to Aldaco's at Stone Oak. If the weather permits sit outside and enjoy the view from the highest point in SA. https://www.aldacosrestaurants.com/

Pollos Asados Los Nortenos is on the East side, depending on where you are staying probably isn't too far. I live NC and most of my favorites are not on this side of town.

If you want to make life exciting, go to one of the millions of Taqueria #51738 Jalisco’s. Culture and you might or might not die.

Have eaten at one is Pearsall many times, was warned about most other locations. Tonight should be la hacienda or Chris madrids. Babes was okay at best, but worked out for quick and easy.
