In the next few days I will be shredding my pond dam. Kubota L3901, tires filled with water and a big heavy service rhino 5 foot deck. It's too steep to shred lengthways safely. Should I fill my bucket with dirt and try reversing up it, or try straight down with an empty bucket close to the ground? Just hoping to not die under a tractor this close to deer season.

Spray it with Remedy & Roundup then burn after we get some rain, you'll live longer and shoot more deer.

hope you have good brakes ... personally, I would go from top down backwards with front bucket very low to use as brakes if needed. can also use front bucket to "crawl" out should the tires spin.

Be careful whatever you do. My buddy’s Grandfather got pinned under his tractor in a foot of water and drowned when it rolled over on him while he was mowing the tank dam.

I wouldn't. Mowing/shredding steep grades like that gives me the heebie jeebies.

If I listened to the little voice in my head, I would live in an underground bunker these days.

Ask your loved ones if they want you using Roundup or the Tractor?

Too many people hurt on slopes. When a tractor rolls over, you are either OK or you are Dead...rarely anything in the middle.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

yeah, I would look for any viable alternates as mentioned above, but if you still must shred it, keep tractor pointed up hill with FEL bucket low, much less chance of any rollover.

Does the tractor have ROPS?

If it does, put your seatbelt on, bucket low, nose pointed uphill.

Low gear the whole time.

ah ha, the back side of the dam? simple, point the shredder towards the dam and reverse up adjusting front bucket to not drag ... easy peasy ... I was thinking shredding the other side towards the water

Yes, the backside of it. That was what I was leaning towards.

should be good to go ... just remember, always work perpendicular to the dam's face.

OK that helps a lot.

If it were me....I'd mow it:

1. Downhill
2. FEL low to ground
3. 4WD in low range and a low gear (this will provide ENGINE braking to control speed)

I don't see anything too scary there. You aren't mowing right down to any water and you won't be mowing on a side-hill.

But always listen to that 'little voice' and any 'pucker factor' if unsure.
