Sometimes I have trouble sleeping because my brains won't disengage, but I often wonder if certain people's brain even engages, this is another of those times.

I have a S&W Air Weight 360 PD that I have never fired, belonged to a close friend who passed away, it's never been fired that I know of, possibly at the factory. Something about a 357 Magnum that weighs 11oz is frightening. I have a S&W 29 with a 4" barrel and a 629 with a 6 1/2" barrel, that's enough of a handful for me.

I'm not much of a hunter so I have a good percentage of collector types. I also never buy new so I don't have any "un-fired".

I thought it was a known fact Ruger test fires everything. That doesn't mean all manufacturers do.

Pass the gravy.

Ruger P97 DC - came with a spent test fire case
Ruger 10/22 - did not come with one
...bought within about a year of each other.

No other gun I've bought has come with one.

All German firearms that have a proof mark have been fired at least twice with a 30% above maximum pressure load. https://unbate-com.ngontinh24.com/article/proof-marks-date-codes-and-german-firearms I believe that that's true throughout Europe.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Again, pure speculation but I wonder if the P97 was tested as a firearm for personal defense, while the 10/22 is a sporting rifle. Given how things are these days, I could see a company wanting to protect itself against any potential lawsuits by testing all their firearms designed more for personal defense. Or perhaps they believe testing all personal defense firearms is just the right thing to do.

Interesting, good info.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I bought a 10-22 new and a 22-45 new (the only two) and I know the pistol has a spent case...thought the rifle did too.

Just because they didn't put the empty case in the box doesn't mean they didn't test it.

Pass the gravy.

Ruger supplied the fired cases for a while to comply with California law. I believe their statute has been repealed or struck down and Ruger no longer supplies the fired cases.
