When I used my .250, I always had the "forgot to bring ammo" paranoia. I never forgot any, but I did however run into this perdicament:

I dropped my gun. Had to sight it back in at the ranch. Opened my box of ammo to realize I hadn't brought a full box, in fact I only had 6 rounds. SO, that gun was always kept with a full box and a box to shoot out of after that.

I still preach the "ammo avaliblity" arguement, although many dispute it. Things happen, period. You go elk hunting and drop a box in the snow, then realize its gone after it snowed 12" that night...you need to find ammo. "BOB's Feed store" doesn't carry several rounds..but they'll have the regulars. I've seen guys grab the wrong ammo boxes before too (as previously mentioned).

for the most part, all of my guns have ammo in them to begin with, at least all te ones that are typically in my truck. (rifle and shotgun) dontcha know guns dont work without ammo. but none of the guns have em in the chamber. besides that, i have ammo to every kinda gun i own in the truck at all times, and some that i dont, so i cant member forgetting ammo to many times....

Okay, how many of you have heard the story of the guy who was busted by his wife when he asked her why she forgot to pack his underware. She informed him that she packed it alright, in his gun case, which he obviously never opened.

Forgot the shotgun shells for a dove hunt one day, had rifle with me so hog hunted instead 2 nice 80lb pigs later the shells did not seem as important.

Never forgot the ammo!

I keep one of those shell holders that fit over the butt of the stock, so I always have at least nine rounds with me.

I didnt forget my ammo.
I stopped by my pasture mid day after seeing a couple of deer along the roadways. I put 1 bullet in my gun, and didnt bring anymore with me. I was walking along our fence line, and a pain 'ol ugly cull was looking at me. I raise up shoot, clean miss. He takes off into the woods, and the biggest deer I have seen on our place runs out in the open, and stops broadside 75 yards away for about 10 - 15 seconds.

Opening day a while back (actually a long while back) didn't forget my shells but in my stand found that the reloads wouldn't chamber. Climbed down hoofed it back to the truck and after violently trashing my truck found 1 factory 7mm round way under the seat. Ran back to the stand, climbed up, pulled my rifle up and then killed a nice 9 point about an hour later.

Opening day three yrs ago. In the bed of my truck was a cabinet. when I was leaving the house i decided not to take the cablinet. Get to the lease and my ammo was in that cablinet. Luckly someone has 7mm rounds.

Thanks, Jigfish

I use one of those elastic cartridge holders that slides on the stock. I keep it full. So, if I can remember the gun, I always have ammo with it.

My dad forgot ammo on one hunt and only realized he forgot it when he heard the click of the hammer while aiming at a doe that had walked out in front of him on his way to the stand.

Ive never forgotten ammo or gun because of that.
