I have not, but finding one in pristine condition is super rare! That’s a dusty trail treasure for sure!

That is cool.
Wonder if it was used as a scraper or some type of cooking knife?

Great find!

That is a corner tang and considered a prize find. I hunt arrowheads and have only found one. I had climbed a small mountain on our lease. We called our mountain nipple peak. It had a balanced rock on top. It was a small version of the bigger mountain nearby really named nipple peak and yes they look like big boobs. I was sitting under the balanced rock watching for Turkey and found a corner tang tucked up under the rock. It being my holy grail, I folded it up in a paper towel and placed it in my shirt pocket so it would not get lost or damaged. When a Turkey showed up, a jackrabbit ran up to me and made a bark like a dog which gave me away to the Turkey. A very surreal moment. I was able to run to intercept the bird and eventually kill it. I had patted my pocket a few times too feeling the corner tang I couldn't believe I had found. Back at camp with the bird, I pulled out the folded paper towel, unfolded it, but nothing was there. I have played the day out in my mind several tmes trying to figure out what happened to it. True story. The spot i found it makes me wonder if it could have been part of a burial or offering. So be careful, corner tangs can be big medicine.

Corner Tang Knife and a darn nice one at that.

Most artifact searchers/diggers will never find one in a lifetime.

Found most often in the Central Texas area.

I'd love to see a side view of that one to see how 'thin' it is.

That is a fairly rare and 'lucky' find I must say.

This one was found around Evant by one of my dove hunters.

If that was a surface find.....by someone just hunting.... then it is a once in 3 lifetimes find (even in an area known for corner tangs). Just slightly below your chances of winning the lottery.

Corner Tang knives come in many shapes and sizes. Smaller ones are often of utilitarian nature but many large, splendid pieces are found in burial sites (interred with an individual). Some are impossibly long, thin and masterfully knapped.

As Corner Tangs go....that is a nice one.

NO WAY..........! eek2

Not just 'fluted' but fluted from base to tip. The other side (if fluted) will be less, generally.

That would be a Paleo Period artifact (Probably a Clovis Point but would need to see it better). Approximately 10,500 to 13,000 years old.

Never seen a flute go past an 'inclusion' like that point has....but it might have been fluted twice.

All I can say is....someone is one lucky Bastid. grin

Arrowhead hunting. Never done it and never found one. How to and where to start? Sounds fascinating.

It was fluted on both sides. He told me the corner tang was buried in the side of a creek bank.

He tried to give me the corner tang, I couldn't take it and told him not to offer it to someone else. I told him that it's a treasure that needs to stay in his family. If I didn't find it myself, it wouldn't have meant much to me.

^^^^^^

I find that most plausible considering the age of the artifact and the 'patina' on it supports it having been buried for a long time.

Both are highly desirable finds. IF found on the same property.....suggests the area is rich in artifacts.

I can tell you from the glossy appearance of the Chert/Flint used to make both pieces that most likely... the material was obtained within 100 miles of where they were found.

That area of Central Texas was a favorite source for high quality cherts. Nearly all of it quite 'workable' without heat treating.

Amazing finds (and luck). Thanks for sharing.

Admirable. And just the way I would have handled it. up

I do hope the person who found the pieces has an appreciation (or can develop one) for the artifacts and just how rare a find they were.

There is also a certain amount of monetary value to each piece (nice specimens like those), though I would never sell such items myself.

I would hate the thought that the artifacts would be put away in a closet someplace and forgotten. While they aren't museum quality, they are very nice pieces and deserve to be displayed and passed down.

He respects them, has them all in little baggies. He had half a shoebox full of points. These 2 were the most interesting. These 2 points were found 20 miles apart. I convinced him to make a shadow box and display them.
