Only my second time bedding a rifle, First gun I didn’t care about (and I almost ruined it) Epoxy got inside the void where the bolt head turns. Tried spraying it out with a garden hose and the water shot back in my eye. Came out good though. Gonna see if this gets me some better groups (7mm mag)

Whatcha using epoxy wise?
FWIW...I've probably done over a dozen at this point and I still pucker until they are popped out.

Some guy said put it in the freezer but you’d need a stand up freezer for that. Just using the “Wheeler Bedrock” compound. $35 smackers on Amazon and it should last at least two more guns. Take all that tape off. All of it!
Zip tie the barreled action down to the stock.
Clean, clean, clean any over flow compound. There's a good chance there is some underneath your tape. Ask me how I know.
It'll come apart. You just gotta be mean enough about it.

Didn't even know they made a bedding compound. Learn something new every day.
I look forward to the next pictures. Fingers crossed it pops easy.

Saran Wrap is what I use as a barrier when using epoxy or bedding compound.

Saran Wrap is what I use as a barrier when using epoxy or bedding compound. Are you saying you put saran wrap around the bottom of the action where it mates to the stock?

Use surgical tubing instead of tape. It is stretchy like a bungee cord and you can wrap it really tight and it's reusable.

Good luck. I;ve done about 3 of these, one of which was just near the recoil lug only. Luckily all 3 have come off without my effort.
I agree with JG, removing and cleaning the overflow is VERY important. Only thing more important to me is the prep. Taking a lot of time here is where I find mitigates the stuck problem. I've not had to do anything like freeze the thing. I have a very small like quarter pound rubber hammer. usually a few taps on the side of the stock and near the rear tang and out they come.
Btw, I don't do any of this wrap or securing the action to the stock other than the action screws. Before my first time, I do ALOT of internet searching so I don't remember where i got the idea from. But I take a few specific steps to ensure no epoxy gets into the holes in the action, but I straight up use the action screws only to hold the action. I basically apply about a quarter to half of the final installation torque I plan on doing. So on the last one i did was a wood stock and basically turned the action screw with an L-shaped allen wrench and only tightened with the short part of the wrench. This seems to work for me so far.
Looks forward to hearing how it turns out.

It came out.. But I won’t be winning any awards for quality Not enough epoxy, and booger’d the cutout for the bolt handle

Looks forward to hearing how it turns out. Wrap enough masking tape around the barrel, where it is at the end of the stock forearm, to fill the free float gap. That will keep the pitch of the barreled action correct. You need to mash the barreled action down hard to make compound squish out everywhere, and you need to keep it there. That's the reason for the two zip ties. And you can go to extra long screws and cover them in bearing grease. No compound will stick to bearing grease. The screws keep the roll correct. And two hours after putting in the barreled action, make a half turn out on your action screws. That further keeps them from adhering to anything.

Do it all again. Not enough compound is the most common rookie mistake. I did it on my first one. But probably 25 stocks later, I put in way more compound than is necessary. Overfull and leaking out is better than not enough.

Ouch.
Wish I could say I've never been there, but the first rifle I ever bedded was a 700. I learned that the bolt should be removed before you try to separate the barreled action from the stock the hard way also.
I'd just shop for another stock on eBay. I don't know how cheap the various versions of the 700 stock are, but many of the ones I occasionally look at can be had for a song.
It might be a good idea to do as JG suggests before trying to bed a new stock, though. A little practice can be valuable. You've already forked it up so you may as well use it to gain a little more experience before trying again for keeps.
Don't worry, you'll figure it out. But just being realistic---you probably have not made your last mistake on a bedding project!

Looks similar to the first 700 I did. At least around the action screws looks pretty good.

I've seen worse. Breaking the stock at the bolt handle is the only thing that sucks. I'd sand it smooth, put some oil on it and make it a good story about a grizzly bear chasing you while elk hunting or something Needed a little more around the tang but the recoil lug area looks good..truth is, that tang area does what you want it to do. What you have is functional but you could do as JG suggested and sand it all and bed it again. You sharing there was something for us all to learn...what I learned was Wheeler makes a bedding compound and it cures up and looks pretty good. One of these days I'll get around to doing a pictorial of how I bed one of mine. I won't have one ready anytime soon, I'm getting into the shooting stage after building/working on them all spring.

More gooder… Final update, would recommend something other than shoe polish as a release agent on cerakote. It was a biotch to get off. Works great for blued finish though. JG went ahead and added more compound like you suggested. Buzz this was the 7 mag (Remington sendero) had to hollow out the barrel channel to make it fit. Judd idk if I would recommend the wheeler compound. Turned out alright but I might look for greener pastures next time around. Thanks to everyone who chimed in Ready for deer season!!

If you’re looking for something different…ProBed 2000, Devcon 10110 or MarineTex. In no particular order…up to this point I’ve used the Devcon. Next I think I’m going to try the ProBed because the mixing ratio is 1:1 the Devcon looks awesome but it’s 9:1, you have to weigh it to make sure it’s right. If you’re interested in seeing how stress free it is, this works: eBay test fixtureLooks better and again thanks for sharing.
