You drew three hunts? Do you know someone in the office?

Congrats! Always fun to hunt a new area.

I wish, just had a good amount of points from not being drawn for any for years and I focused on applying to the least popular hunts this year. I'd rather have the luck spread out though than all at once like this.

I might have to try that next year. Typically I just apply for anything within a four hour radius of my house, with exceptions for exotics.

It takes less points to draw some trophy elk units out west as a non resident, than it does on average for a good whitetail unit through TPWD. Pretty ridiculous.......

That's because the Texas system is weighted towards applicants with higher loyalty points by giving an applicant more entries in the draw. Points in Texas do not guarantee a tag like they do in Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming for example.

It seems like a lot of THF members are drawing some good hunts this year. A lot more than usual.

Yessir I know how it works, have been applying in the TPWD draw hunt program for 31 yrs now, and I've been hunting out west for the same amount of time in various states. I wish our draws WERE like CO, AZ, UT, where at least you know after a certain number of years you will draw. The one and only hunt I've drawn through TPWD was at the Chap back in 2010, after putting in for 17 yrs. There was more than one other hunter on that hunt who it was their SECOND time to draw that hunt in less time than I had (and no they were not standbys), and a couple more who had only 4-5 points when they drew. I'm sorry I don't agree with that, especially when you have folks like the gentleman earlier who said he'd been putting in for over 20 yrs and had yet to draw anything in any category.

Bill

It would be nice to be able to predict a draw in Texas, but we have way too many applicants for any type of point system to work. If you started a true points system now, it would take approximately 100 years to guarantee a tag at Chaparral.

I know Arizona has made their drawing 50% random and Colorado is looking at ways to address their drawing system to make it more random.

It's not an easy hunt, but I've saw deer out there. There can be lots of pigs. I would call the area to get a compartment map and try to go look at the place since it's almost always open for access, but you'll need an APH.

When you get assigned your hunt compartment at orientation, ask the staff where they think you should hunt. An ATV would be useful for the hunt and even a bicycle would work more than likely work.

I hunt out there fairly regular for ducks, pigs and squirrels. I've rode a bicycle all over that place when it's dry.

I hunted OSB about 8 years ago. I didn't see any animals. Actually, I saw more illegal hunters (non permitted) on my compartment hunting. We had a compartment near the highway where a parking lot was located and I guess these guys didn't get the memo about the place being locked down for the lottery hunt.

Ive won 3 so far but only signed up for 2. 2 of the hunts were the same week so I just had to choose 1 of them. So I have 2 hunts so far. Hoping for another one though. Would be nice to win a pig hunt coming up!

Nothing for me. My two nephews drew the epostcard youth big lake bottom hunt. Hoping for a second draw hunt but not counting on it.

Found out I'm going to be a father next May, so these hunts are coming at just the right time for one last hurrah before things like that become a lot more complicated. Looking forward to passing down the same hunting traditions I learned when I was little to my kid though, can't wait. I just want them to learn to appreciate and enjoy the great outdoors.

Glad I checked this topic. I reminded. me to check my status. Ended up drawing an antlerless/doe hunt at Cooper WMA, but the notification went to my junk mail. Settings are fixed now where they should be going to my inbox.

Congrats! I was only able to hunt locally the first few years after my kids were born. Your wife will need you!
