Congrats on drawing a good one. Only 4 permits on that one, so you may be looking for a needle in a haystack that someone on here also drew. I am still at pending 2nd draw for that hunt. My dog is young, still just a pup so since that one had only 4 spots I was mostly using it to get the loyalty point for next time. But if I accidently draw it, I will probably see you out there as long as the weather is good for it. I know nothing about the place. Just pick the brains of TPWD staff. They will know the best areas and will want you to have a successful hunt. Other than that, like any public upland hunt. Trust your dog, always believe there is a bird in front of you, and always be ready. Good luck to you.

I did draw the Muleshoe hunt. I believe last year was the first quail hunt allowed there in almost 90 years. It is Texas's oldest NWR. A bird watcher that was there recently saw quite a few bobs and blues. I just paid for the permit.

That'll be great, John! Sounds like there'll be plenty of practice for the new pup!

No Sir, I do not have a trained bird dog. Main reason i was looking for another group.

So you know. Mine is just a pup and will be on the job training. Likely her first exposure to wild quail. She will not be capable for others to hunt over her. Nor will she have the stamina of an adult dog. My personal goal for this trip is for dog training and wild bird exposure, not killing a lot of birds.
