USA went thru a frenzy of building these back in the 50's until everybody realized that it was a futile effort. You simply can't stock enough air, water, food, and medicine to outlast the fallout from a nuclear attack. Bomb shelters just become an uncomfortable place to die.
You see them in Europe for an entirely different reason... They are much more likely to suffer a conventional attack from a very close neighbor. Think of bombing Austin if you live in Dallas or Houston. You are not going to use a nuke.

We have fallout shelters just a block away on UW campus. Most are not in very useable condition but they are still there. They also have a series of underground tunnels that could be used for a bombing.
Russians have stated 1st missiles are aimed at FE Warren AF base, just over the hill in Cheyenne from us. With the right westerly wind we may survive.

I went through some NBC training at work about this subject and the one thing I learned was that Fort Worth is toast I’d it happens because of the NASJRB. It is a primary target for any enemy.
