Don't have one and don't want one but I was talking with a friend that was standing about 3 feet from his buddy when the buddy fired 6.5 with a suppressor on it. My friend said that the noise was deafing. My question is could a suppressor for a 30 cal fit on a 6.5 and work as it should as a suppressor. Second question, would the suppressor reduce the recoil in the above case. Thanks Daniel

First off suppressors don't make guns "HOLLYWOOD QUIET", they only reduce the sound. As an example a 300 HAM'R with an "effective" suppressor will sound similar to a unsuppressed .22 Mag..

You can always use a larger diameter suppressor on a smaller diameter caliber. I mostly run .358/9mm cans on my .30 cal guns and the difference in sound reduction between a .30cal and .358cal suppressor is very minor. Using a .30cal on a 6.5 would be similar.

Suppressors absolutely reduce recoil and normally eliminate muzzle flash. Shooting a equal weight/bbl length HAM'R with a suppressor will recoil similar to a unsuppressed .223

You still hear the crack as the bullet goes supersonic but the bang is reduced a lot.

.264 is smaller diameter wise so you would probably get some gases escaping the suppressor but not enough to make it deafening. So a little bit louder crack from both the bullet and gasses.

Suppressor will only make it hearing safe but I wouldn’t shoot a ton of rounds without hearing protection. The recoil reduction is very noticeable.

To me suppressors are more or less just toys. As long as you stay sub-sonic they are quiet and a lot of fun. Once you break the sound barrier they don’t do much for me.

All my suppressors are 30 cal, and I am enjoying every one of them. As far as reducing sound with a smaller caliber, I shoot with a NomadL on my 22-250, and it sounds like a rimfire. A friend of mine has a Hybrid 46 and when on his 22-250, it is not hearing safe. So, depending on what suppresser you have and what barrel length you have, your results will vary.

Like others have stated, you are good with shooting a 6.5mm (.264") bullet through a 30 cal suppressor. I only have a 45 pistol and 30 cal rifle suppressors. I have shot both of them a 9mm and 6.5mm guns, respectively. no issues at all.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Not my experience at all. Suppressors allow you to see the "splash" of your bullet at distant targets, which is obviously vital to get you the proper corrections. Love 'em just for general hunting as well, especially for hogs. many times I can whack the first pig, and several others will sort of stand or mill around a little allowing more kills before they spook and run off. Suppressors are just a pleasure to shoot.

It also depends on the type of action the rifle is. A semi auto will never be as quiet as a bolt action or single shot.
I have run a SilencerCo Chimera 300 on a bolt action Winchester Mod. 70 in 6.5 Creedmoor and with 3200 fps 95 grain pills it is like a 22 magnum, with 2700 fps 147 grain pills it is like a 10/22.

The only negatives about suppressors is cost, ATF wait time, weight and length when using them on a non semi-auto. If shooting a semi-auto you add in that it dirties up the gun and you still have the action noise.

Weight and length can be mitigated by going with a smaller/shorter titanium can. I'm running a .358/9mm 5" Ti WC Quell on a 16" 300 HAM'R bolt gun that only weighs 9.5oz including the interface and only adds 4.5" to the length of the rifle. It's plenty quiet enough for hunting.

I've basically quit using any of my non suppressed hunting rifles!!!

I agree, you don't get 4 in one go-round without the suppressor:

Possibility that the friend heard a short or K series can. They do far less in regards to sound reduction. But a full size 30 cal can from most of the mainstream manufacturers should be far far from deafening.

I’ve not had a ton of suppressor experience but none of the ones I’ve shot have been close to “deafening”. Most sound like a .22 mag. Business partner has a 8” can on his 6.5 cm and it’s a blast to shoot.

I just picked up my harvester Evo today and am excited to use it. Great for reducing noise and the combo is shorter than several of my hunting rifles.

The Harvestor Evo seems like a heck of a hunting can if you aren’t needing full auto type ability. Supposed to put up awesome numbers for a very light can.

I’ll give feedback if I get to shoot it next week

100 Percent. Mine got approved today. This is why I bought it. Ready to wreck some pigs.

Maybe “toys” was the wrong word. I didn’t mean it as in “kids toys”. I do like mine and enjoy shooting them sub-sonic… Just never personally been all that impressed with their ability/lack there of to tame the sonic boom. Maybe I was just expecting too much from what we always see in the movies. I can see benefits, and hog hunting is a perfect example.

I’ve been shooting through silencers since the early 90’s. They are just another tool in the toolbox. On a 22 they are super quiet but on larger cartridges with supers, they just help tame some noise and recoil.
