I have to go in to a DMV location for renewal this time. Got to have an appointment, so went online for that. Had few issues with that, so called the number shown (so I can talk to a real person). And heard that “this number is no longer in service”. Whew! So I finally got a date and time, but 45 miles away. Again Whew!

Had to fill out two pages of info. It occurs to me that anybody with a marginal IQ will have problems. And yes…Imsuppose I did have a minor problem.

Now waiting on a confirmation email from DPS. Please Lord, make it happen.

If you need to renew, and if you have to go into a DMV location, start getting an appointment 60 days before you need it. I, with the marginal IQ, forgot to do that. Don’t be like 603…

If you log on right at 7 in the morning, there are appointments available….I did it last month after getting an appt 3 months in the future….found one 10 days hence.

The good news is once you get there and check in 30 minutes ahead of time, you’re out in half an hour.

It really is a better system.

Got my Oklahoma license last December, it was $4.16 for 8 years. The wife and I are still laughing at the price, we don't know how they came up with that number.

Had my appointment canceled last week due to computer outage. Was able to email and get a new date 9/20 at 9:15am. Didn't want to go that early but I'll get it over with and do something else.

I think mine took about 7 minutes online to set up an appointment in Meridian. Maybe the online appointment process is actually a way to see if the person should still be driving

Get a back up DL, like from Mexico or some other 3rd world an use it.

My wife drove on her Philippines DL in Texas for month and she didn't know how to drive, she paid someone to get her a Philippines DL before she came to USA.

She now has a Texas DL, I had to send her to Adult Driving school to learn how to drive and pass DPS test.

Is she old enough for a regular license…or did she get a hardship license?

I went through this last month when I saw that mine was expiring. The dumbest thing about it was that you had to fill out a bunch of junk online, then when I got to the office for my appointment, they made you fill out all the same junk again on a paper form. The plus side is that you are in and out pretty quickly.

I went to the local DMV office early this morning. Nobody was there, but the boss lady. I had hoped to see if there was a cancellation today, but the mean a__ woman was of no assistance. Go online.

In some places, it's always been difficult. Other places, it used to be a walk in the park. Pre-covid, it was a nightmare at all the the DPS locations on the south side of Houston. There were long lines and people started lining up an hour before the places opened. Many of them would cut off the lines around 2PM or so in the afternoon so they could finish by 5. However, drive 20 minutes down the highway to the Texas City branch and you could get in and out in 10 minutes. Once COVID hit, they closed all the offices and it went to appointment only. Personally, I prefer the appointment route because I don't have to drive all the way to Texas City and I can get in and out of the place by my house in 20 minutes.

Well, I do have an appointment now. It’s past my birthday, so I’ll be illegal for a few days. Going to the DMV in Centerville, so I can go to Woody’s for a massive BBQ stuffed baked potato. Hopefully there won’t be any gunfights that day.

I did mine online. Still took a couple of months to get the new one.

When you go for renewal be sure you take your original birth certificate and another form of ID. My son took a copy of his and they refused it. He had to get an original from Illinois. He was driving on an expired license for a month because of it.

I’m taking about everything that proves I’m still alive, was born here, and live here, have a SS card, and that I own vehicles that are registered and insured. And a picture of my mother and favorite childhood dog. I’d also take a picture of the hospital where I was born, but years ago they tore it down and put a junkyard there.
