Just got the notification that I was drawn in the secondary drawing for javelina. Never been to the place. Anybody got any experience or info they can share? Hunt is going to be Feb 06-08. Long way down from Amarillo so I would like to begin gathering some intel if at all possible. Any info anybody can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I hunted the North Shore bout 10 years ago for deer. They had it broke up into compartments and one hunter per compartment. You get a combination to the gate on the dam and you drive across the top of the dam and go to your compartment. I did not see any javelina, but I'm sure they are there. Hopefully they will let you call and check in and out instead of driving all the way around the lake to a hunter check station. I did the first day and they then let us call in on the phone.

I had the archery deer hunt in CCNS a couple years ago, and it was first week in January. Like mentioned above, we got a pass and combo to the gate and went across the dam. We had to be at the James Daughtrey WMA headquarters the first morning, but after that they let you call in at night for checkout. I just stayed at the motel in Three Rivers to be close in the mornings. There were four compartments, and I took the first one. It has a big power line going right thru the middle of it, down into a big swale with a pond at the bottom, and back up the hill. Used my green pop-up, instead of my darker Fall brown one, and they didn't spook from it. Saw a few hogs and a lot of torn up bottom, quite a few javis by my blind on the little trails, and some really nice deer. I used Golden Deer Nuggets, from Record Rack, and the little bustards were vacuum cleaners every day!!! Held out for a big deer, and was never interested in the others.

i've never been there but i've put in for the drawings there as well and have been reading up on it for hte day we might would get drawn. that i've read and heard in other places there's plenty hogs on north shore, they tend to be thicker nearer the lake. all the compartments are "near" the lake but some are thicker and are actually right on it. Lake is real low right now something like 28-29ft. there will be a lot of exposed shoreline. i'd think it would be pretty easy to find trails where animals are coming out of the cover and going down toward receeded water's edge. i think i'd be looking for and set up on anything like that and just wait.

My bro in law kids were selected for a deer gun hunt several years ago, the brush in the north shore is really thick. About all you can hunt was the road, if they allow baiting now, just corn the roads.
