I was on my way to the Chadbourne Ranch in Coke County. I was helping the owner, a friend of mine, do some restoration work on the buildings of Ft. Chadbourne. Soon after getting to the ranch, the second plane hit. We lowered the fort's flag to half staff even though he, two others and me were the only ones around the old fort. We continued our efforts that day but not much was truly accomplished as we continually listened to the happenings on his DeWalt portable radio. I've forgotten lots of things in my 70 years but will never forget that day. flag

Pouring concrete on the side of a mountain in Colorado. Didn’t find out until the last truck driver told us around noon.

I had just arrived in Cassis, France after flying all night to London and then on to Marseilles. Was sitting outside in a little cafe having some pizza and a beer with colleagues. I'll never forget.

I was working construction close to DFW Airport. Couldn't have any radios on the job. When the skies went quite we all, about 50 workers, knew something was wrong. Someone listen to the radio at lunch in their vehicle and started telling everybody about what had happened. The next days where so surreal with no planes flying.

Bittersweet day for me. I was in a police management training class on 9/11 and we watched the coverage all day. Within a few months I was hired by the Federal Air Marshal's Service. I spent the next 20 years doing what I could to make sure it never happened again.

I retired in December 2022 and this is the first 9/11 in 20 years I haven't been on the job. I'd just like to ask for prayers for those guys and girls still at the "tip of the spear" to help prevent another day like this one.

To echo what others have already said: Remember the fallen and all of the heroes who answered the call that day.

I will never forget.

I was teaching geography at my high school when our principal came to my class and told me to turn on the news...one of the worst feelings i've ever had in my life was watching everything unfold with high school kids watching and knowing things were gonna be way different from that time on

remember it like yesterday ... I was sitting in my office, when I got a IM on AOL instant messenger from a friend, who's husband was an Air Traffic Controller, that a plane hit one of the towers. A bit later, she IMed me again that another one stuck the other tower. I got up and went to find a conference room that had a TV. I stood there in amazement and total shock. By the time I got back to my office, she said all the ATC were shutting down the skies over all the US. I kept going back to that conference room frequently to check on things and found out about the other two planes and there started to be a lot of people from work huddling around that conference room the majority of that day. I didn't get much accomplished that day. I spent a lot of time on the phone with my employees that were scattered around the USA on business travel on what to do and trying to figure out how to get them home. I had several that were at White Sands in NM that rented a car in El Paso and drove back to Austin, another few on the east coast that just stuck it out until airports started opening back up. Watching the horror that was unfolding was terrible, saw both towers collapse ... it was a sobering and somber reality that we were under attack and no telling what else might happen over the next hours/days/weeks ...

I appreciate that and I was proud to do it. It was a good career begun from a horrible act. I don’t want our society to get too much farther from remembering just how close we still are to the possibility of it happening again.

I worked with a guy, Tony M. Similarly, right after 9/11 he got hired by Air Marshals. It seemed very quickly, seemed like with days he was gone.
He also just retired. Got some job in Kansas.

I know Tony very well. He was down a few weeks ago for a mutual buddies retirement as well. He’s got a great gig now.
