Headed off to Maine last week. It was way cooler than down here and, frankly, could've been even more so for my tastes. Cottonwood got his 110 lb monster killer bear with a well placed shot the first day. My gun made it to the airport on the 2nd day (our 1st to hunt) and turned out I didn’t need it anyway. Slot Machine took a shot at a big bruiser at a hair raising 35 yds!! really hate to use the term missed but …he missed!

The Man w/Trophy Wife was not particularly suited for this type of hunting as you have to be very still and quiet to be successful….he is neither of those and so never saw anything. Jake w/State Farm had one come in three days in a row but never gave him a shot, turns out the bear was smarter than he is! One of the Pups from Wild Peach took on a last ditch effort as he scored on the last hour of the last day! It was a nice bear.

The hunting was, indeed, very different. Hours upon hours in the same tree stand with extremely lmited views. I know every crack & bump on that there bait barrell. Freedom Outfitters of Maine - great guys willing to work hard. Beth's food was simple tasty good and portions were overkill. I did gain 6 pounds on this trip. No brear, but a win for me. Lots of time to think and decide on things. Was a great trip - I was better for going.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. And "all" sounds like it was quite the troop movement up there. Well done Compadre.

I think I replayed my entire life story one evening while sitting in a bear stand.

Sorry you didn’t see a bear, but at least you got to see some really cool country!

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

This where they set me off. I'd walk in that logging road.

road stops prior to this stream meaning almost there

every view looks like this. Woods so thick, you see no (zero) birds. You hear them, you just don't see them once you get into the forest.

33 hours over 5 days sitting in a 10 foot tree stand looking at this here barrell. We became intimate.

Tyhe camp fire was awesome. Wood splits so easy.

Even you can see that poor bear's hand in the trap.

It was a rough opening week in Maine. I was expecting cooler weather myself. I got a bear day three but not much other was had in our camp. The moon played a factor also I believe.
