Just received a text from Reliant saying ERCOT just issued an Energy Emergency Alert and power outages are possible!

I swear half the people in Texas would die without electricity for 8 hours.

Forecasted to be even hotter the next 2 days. Funny...not really, that I had "test generator" on my to-do list for tomorrow!

The alert had nothing to do w/ possible outages for residential customers, just industrial. It has expired now but was only level 2 which has no impact to homes.

Just saw on local news that there was only a 2200 MW surplus at times today.

Well when you allow hundreds of thousands of people to flood the state and they all are using electricity of course you're going to run low.....

I like to blame it on the bitcoin miners. If the alert was for industrial customers then why send it to everybody? What is going to happen today and Friday when temps are even higher?

I got a message from Gexa last evening to be extremely frugal with power in order to avoid rolling blackouts. It is supposed to be hotter today and tomorrow.
Pretty screwy way to run a grid, but Greg assures us that all is peaches and ice cream, so why worry? roflmao

I don't think people are able to wrap their heads around the amount of power needed to run bitcoin mining.

Everyone plugging their Tesla in after the days commute doesn't help.

Also doesn't help that the woke and eco terrorists have made us overly reliant on wind and solar to power the grid and shut down coal fired plants.

The level 2 alert is one level before rolling blackouts commence for everyone, not just for businesses! We're already being warned about this afternoon. I just tested my generator and left it hooked up...just in case.

Did not have this problem in Texas until it turned red.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

I think you underestimate how much power industry uses and the amount of load that can be shed by shutting some of it down.

My house used 3300 kWh total in august. My company consumes 15,000 kw in one hour. Roughly 5 months worth for my house. Another way to look at it is shutting down at work will supply 3000 plus homes. On the scale of industry I’d say we’re the median regarding consumption.

Same with water. Industrial & agricultural customers use the majority of water but they blame watering lawns for the water shortages.

I don't understand why we are having these issues now. It started with the freeze. You never heard of these issues before that. What's the matter with these people?

Look at all the coal plants that have been shut down. Wind doesn't always blow.

Turn off all the lighting for billboards. Texas doesn't need Lotto billboards lit up all night. Car dealers, banks, lawyers billboards don't need to be lit all the time. If your business isn't open 24 hours a day, no more lit up bill boards

That offends some on here. They want you to comply.
