Keep in mind that unfortunately, there's never a shortage of dove hunting incidents in the Annual TPWD Hunting Accident Report. Here's one from last year's report that probably resulted in only in a minor injury. Others were not so fortunate. Shooter fired at low-flying doves outside of his safe zone and ‘peppered’ one of his hunting companions who was standing on another side of pond from shooter. Pellets struck victim in his right arm and chest. No, the shooter wasn't a kid but a 39-year-old man who had taken Hunter Education. Another 26-year-old man who I suspect wasn't so fortunate... Hunter was hunting dove and raised cocked, single-shot, 20-ga. shotgun to shoot but didn’t take a shot. He began walking again, losing the grip of his shotgun, and he discharged it towards the little toe on his right foot. 2022 TPWD Hunting Accident Report
