I need to know the good, the bad & ugly of your experience. My problem is arthritis and Dr. Says "scoping aka cleanout" is only a stop gap procedure. Right knee is the worst and left is close behind.
Looking for surgeon recommendations Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Sherman and Dennison. Someone you would trust to put a knife to your wife, child mother or yourself. In this procedure success rate is 88% even with the best in the business.

People who have total knee Replacements usually say they should have done it a long time ago. Good luck but I'm sure you will be fine and grateful.

Hoping to get another 5-6 years out of them then replace both at the same time. Then hopefully enjoy retirement. My grandfather had one replaced then the second six months later. Said his only regret was not having both done at the same time. One recovery period instead of two. Following comment….

Had both mine done one last September, the other the following January after deer season. Dr. Barrington with Plano Orthopedics did mine. He's a no-nonsense guy with a strong belief in preventing infection. I had to lose 55 pounds before he would operate on me.
I went home same day up walking on a walker the next day, 10 minutes every hour or so. had a nurse come the first week, then a rehab lady every week from there till the staples came out. She worked me through the rehab exercises. Still had to do rehab myself for a few weeks after. Doc said he could tell if I was doing the exercises by the way I walked when I went in for my follow-up visits.
Pain was there the first few days then began to subside . I took Tramadol. My Doc doesn't want you on heavy narcos.
Most important is to do EXACTLY what Doc says. No being a hero and try to hurry it. Wait till after hunting season. January was good because it was cold outside.
Holler back with any other questions if needed.

Dr. Toulson did my mom's at the Sherman location. She did both at the same time and he is one of the best in North Texas. BIL is right, physical therapy is huge

My first one ended up infected and almost killed me. Damn shame because I was doing fantastic in rehab until it hit. 2nd one on the same knee 2 months later went well but there will always be difficulties for me. Lose weight now if you're overweight, strengthen both your legs before surgery, get a tall toilet now. Best of luck.

Hold out as long as you can, most of them go right but you seen my limp from when they go wrong because when they go wrong you’re screwed for the rest of your life…. I wouldn’t do it again for 50 million dollars and the King Ranch,,

This guy Kerry Donegan https://www.ntxortho.com/doctors/kerry-m-donegan-md at North Texas Orthopedics & Spine in Grapevine. I met him in martial arts and have known him for over 30 yrs. Wonderful and caring person. He has done 3 knee scopes, reattached my hamstring to my pelvis and my knee replacement. I will never use anyone else and my family has used him also. 817 481-2121 down the street from Baylor Hospital in Grapevine. I would recommend to get in as good of shape as you can. I did squats with no weights and if I was feeling pain I would do wall sits to strengthen the muscles. I was able to walk out of the hospital without a walker. He says I will probably never have the same range of motion as the other knee, but it's not bad and I am so glad I went ahead and did it 8 yrs ago. I was bone on bone & he said a shot would just prolong the replacement. I could not sleep at night after a day of walking on concrete teaching school. I figure I will have to do the other knee eventually.

The doc who did my knee (just one) was Dr. Pat Peters in Grapevine (he did Terry Bradshaw also - kinda cool to have Bradshaw in the office while I was there on one of my office visits - regular guy!). https://www.ntxortho.com/doctors/pat-peters-md My experience was mostly good. The physical recovery was hard and took longer than most. Agree, scoping and meniscus repairs just delayed the replacement surgery.

Had one done last year. They had me on an knee rehad exerciser. I called it the rack. 2 hours 4 times a day. I learned to sleep in at night. Slow and short rotations. Ice, the rack and half at Vicodin couple times a day first two weeks then rehab for 6 months. Recovery was a full year. Texas Bone and Joint. Dr Stephanie Stephens.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

The knee is not fully healed for a year. It takes this long for the bone to grow completely to the metal knee.

Get a 2nd opinion or even 3rd opinion, Way too many ortho's will want to give you knee surgery. I have about 70% usage of one of my knees, with severe arthritis, thankfully it doesn't hurt very often, My latest Ortho whom I trust suggested not getting replacement unless I was in pain.

People who have total knee Replacements usually say they should have done it a long time ago. Good luck but I'm sure you will be fine and grateful. My wife said the same thing. She had 1 done this February and the other in 2019. She said the surgery pain was much less than the everyday pain from bad knees. She has been doing great.

For a couple of years my left knee was barking at me, got to the point where it hurt most of the day so it was time to see a doc. Went to one that was referred to me by a neighbor who had hip replacement surgery that worked out great, he also he had great Google reviews. Xrays showed I was bone on bone with both of my knees, only the left one bothered me, he said replacement was the only option. Had total replacement on my left knee June the 15.
On Medicare so the first two weeks they have a therapist come out to the house starting the day after surgery three times a week. It was obvious mine had no clue what he was doing, so I had him replaced, that set me back the first week which is very important. Second guy was better but was still not pushing me hard enough. After those two weeks of in home you go to outpatient clinic for two months.
At last Mondays therapy which is two months after surgery, I have 120 degrees of flex and lack only 5 degrees of being able to completely straighten my leg. For reference I have a 130 degrees of flex in my good leg, goal is to get to 125 in two weeks and hopefully 130 in a month. I have no pain just some soreness after being up and around for long periods of time. First two weeks trying to sleep was a Beetch.
Unlike Buzz, they put dissolving stitches and glue to close mine up, very small scar at this time.
If your knees are that bad do it, I just will not recommend the doc that did mine. I also Highly recommend getting a pair of Sketchers slip on shoes, easy to slip on and so comfortable to wear , trying to put tennis shoes on and tying them was a pain in the backside.
As a matter of fact, anyone with issues putting on shoes ought to check out Sketchers!
Good luck!!

I do enjoy mine!

Carrell Clinic - think you'll need a referral. Wouldn't go anywhere else personally.
One of the top docs in the state, Dr. Schubert, retired recently - but all of the other ortho docs there are top notch.

I have had three pairs of Incredisox in the rotation for more than 10 years -- and have worn an Incrediwear back brace nearly as long. Good stuff.
