Looking at getting my first 1911, looking to spend around 600-700, what would be the best in that range for a first 1911 Have looked at so many, read reviews, watch videos, I'm just lost now

In that range, if you can find it, the Ruger SR 1911. If not I would suggest the best Rock Island in your budget. Don’t fall for the cheap Kimber BS, what you get is a cheap Kimber.

I've had several rock islands and a citadel (also an armscore product) and they have all been awesome.

I would ask what caliber ya want it in? Most see 1911 and go 45, I prefer 9mm
i am cancelling my subscription, i am tired of your issues!

A base model Springfield Armory 1911 is good to go. Smith & Wesson as well.
Up your price point then Dan Wesson 1911 pistols are a great value, well built and extremely accurate.
Stay away from Kimber at any price point.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Sig does make a good 1911. You'll get good quality even if its a bit over the OP stated budget.

I personally have owned almost everything made, shot many thousands of rounds from everything from a el cheapo rock island to Les Baer’s.. for your price point the best choice is the sprngfield armoy, any model they make because it’s a forged frame and forged slide. Ruger is also a excellent pistol but they seem to be a bit more than your stated budget these days. The springfield has a lifetime warranty. If you start getting into the higher end pistols the Dan Wesson’s are as good as the customs that cost double. In all honesty I doubt anyone could ever justify the difference between a DW and a ed brown or LB.

Best value out there right now would probably be one of the Turkish guns. Girsan or Tisas, I think they're all made by the same outfit and branded per the importer. Very good value. A year ago they were an absolute steal. Probably still a very good buy for the money..

Very happy with my Rock Island. Unlike some foreign clones, GI parts fit.

A used DW can be found for a couple hundred more…..and I own all the makers in this thread except RI and Tisa.

I love my 1911's, carried them on duty throughout the 80's and still carry them. My bud picked up a commander sized Tisas and it is slick. Probably one of the best made for the money. Look online at Classic Firearms. Their 10mm also has my eye.

Another Springfield recommendation. Academy has the Springfield mil spec for $699 right now. Solid as hack pistol. I have had one for several years. That is what I would buy. Plain Jane parkerized finish is not flashy. All forged. Better trigger than my colt. Better sights than my colt. Not picky about magazines or ammo. Accuracy is about the same as the colt.
Follow up and tell us what you get. Also tell us if you put the idiot mark on it after you field strip and clean it.

Tisa's are all the rage on the 1911 Forum. Solid guns After seeing some buzz about Tisas on here, I asked the owner of 1911 Academy (on 380) about them, and he said, "We have worked on a ton of them and have put them through every test we do, and they're awesome. Go buy a bunch of them before prices go up."

Tisas are definitely a steal at 350 for the base model. They could easily sell them for a few hundred more. The 1911A1 at least has complete parts interchangeability too, and WC mags work in it (at least the 10 rounder I got). It came with Mec-Gars which are solid themselves. I wanted a 1911 like my dad carried in Vietnam and and my grandfather carried in WWII, with the Tisas price I had money left over to get an M1916 holster like my dad used and an M3 like my grandpa used.

I’m a fan of lots of manufacturers. Had a bunch and still do. Price point on a Tisas is the best deal out there. I sold a couple on here but kept going back for more. Settled on these. Two 9mm (bobtail and black full size) and a 45 (SS). Full disclosure I did swap main spring housings, added magwell, and swap grip panels on the two. Huge difference IMO aesthetically. Overdue for a range trip. Full size 9 is the only one broke in.
