My son Wyatt just got out of the Navy and has a job offer so we need to find him a car asap.
Trying to stay in the DFW area but if it is worth a further drive we will do it!

He would like a new 2023 Nissan Altima SV regular pkg or a low mileage 2022. Prefers a White or Silver with Grey interior but will consider other colors except Red or Black.

Appreciate any and all help!

The last new car I bought was a Nissan. I wanted a Toyota 4Runner but the dealers all thought they had the last one and I was made of money. Stopped by a Nissan dealer and found what I wanted. Good car.

Input on on financing is also welcome. Right now he plans on using Navy FCU, they have 4.74% on 60 months.
Any other C.U or lenders with better rates that you can recommend?

I can’t speak to the newer Nissan’s, but historically, they have had issues with the CVT transmission. This was the case with my son’s Altima. After changing the fluid and filters, we still had to add an aftermarket transmission cooler to keep the fluid cool enough that the transmission wouldn’t act up. So I would do your due diligence on late model Nissans to see if this is still and issue.

My friend's CVT went out, and the cheapest repair he could find was $7000. That cooled me on Nissan CVTs, for sure.

I have never owned a Nissan, so I can't personally attest to poor reliability and a cheap build. But, I am in the auto finance business and I can factually state that Altimas depreciate quickly and have a poor resale value. They depreciate ~50% over a 5 year period and trade-ins are far less than that.

I just used Cavender's Nissan in Rockwall for a lease vehicle (2023 Sentra SV). Great experience overall. My salesman was Carter Macey. I have owned Datsun and Nissan cars and trucks and never had big issues with them. I really like this Sentra we got and intend to buy it at the lease end.

Another vote for Toyota or Honda if he wants long-term reliability. Pay it off as soon as possible, then do proper maintenance, drive it for years, put money in the bank.

My mechanic friend has said for years that Nissans are prone to electrical issues. Having said that, my dad had a 1980 Nissan 4x4 pickup that ran far longer than it ever should have.

Bought my wife a new Altima 2dr in 2011. She sold it to her brother in 2016 and he gave it to his other sister a year later. She's been driving it every day back and forth to DFW airport and has never had a single problem.

Fortunately my son will probably only drive it 8-10K miles a year, plans on getting rid of it in about 4 years and then get another truck.
Car search is a challenge, for some reason the salespeople do not understand that he only wants a certain type of Altima hammer

I bought a 2003 Nissan Frontier V 6 that had around 600 miles, at the 150,000 it started having a lot of issues.

Convince your son to stay FAR away from Nissan! Nissan is the "Ford" of the import world-meaning the LOWEST QUALITY TRASH! STAY AWAY FROM NISSAN! Google "Nissan transmission problems" and after reading that, if he still wants a Nissan, then he gets what he deserves.

I am on my 7th new Honda since 1996. The only repair I ever had to make in 27 years was 400 bucks for an AC line I had to replace in 2006. I just traded in my last one that I had for 5 years and got 82% of what I paid for it on my trade. It cost me 3900 bucks to own it for 5 years. No bad at all. Great milage to. smile ani

Our 2012 Altima CVT had issues also, sold the car because of it. Hated that xmission.

I would normally vote honda as well, but we are having to replace a steering rack to the tune of $4200 on a 2018 with less than 27k miles...bought it from a dealer last year for my daughter going to college with less than 10k miles on it (local, single owner, lease vehicle with clean carfax). This is apparently a pretty big issue in civics and crv's but honda refuses to acknowledge it except for 54 specific cars that it sent a recall out on. I talked to Honda corporate about it and they basically said it's out of warranty so I have to pay for it. NOT happy about spending extra to get a nice honda only to have this happen, so if I knew then what I know now, i'd be buying toyota!!

Edited to add: the steering rack is backordered and her civic has been sitting in the honda lot for the past almost 3 weeks now and they said the earliest we could possibly get one is the 13th

These days there's no need to go to the dealer to search for cars. You can easily do it online.

Go on CarGurus and search, can input all your criteria and will show you all the new cars at various dealers. No need to deal with any random salesperson to find the car. You can find it and do it all online.

Thought you might be interested in this CarGurus listing:
New 2023 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV FWD - $26,420

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/link/361021900

Took me probably a minute to find that one, there are plenty of them on there.
