Got the dogs out yesterday and before 7am they had chased two coons into a shallow hole. I shot them in the hole, each took two hits as the shot angle was poor. Range 3 feet. Launched from a 6AR not ARC at 3100 fps not one bullet exited either coon. Both in the somewhat over 20 pound range. Since I often shoot them out of trees I was happy to learn my bullets will not likely cause a downrange incident. Nope didn't have a cellphone dang it.

I shot a pig in the ear with that bullet from a 243. It was a very poor choice on my part. Even an ear hole shot failed to kill the pig. It did pop both eyeballs out.

When these get all shot up I am going to a heavier bullet for sure. Surprised me that 6 inches of coon penetration was more than it could do.

If you slow 'em down 100 or 200 fps they might penetrate a little better. You might have to slow 'em waaaay down, though...that's just not an approach I've ever taken (always more, more, MORE!).

Seen similar with 90 grain speer hp’s in 270 win as fast as they would go and .308 diameter 220 grain round nose pushed faster than intended. They were grenades at even modest 300 wby speeds. At around 2300 fps they finally do ok for deer hunting, but still expand more than I would like and penetrate less.

Got another 196 loaded. They will kill more coons and a coyote or two. I would bet they are acting exactly as designed.

They work very well in my 6x45 gas gun.

They function fine in my rifle and are accurate also.

I shoot the 58 gr V-MAX out of my 6PPC and it is deadly on coons, possums and 'yotes. Pretty much purees their insides. Two ear-shot small hogs went down with barely a squeal, but it's not my caliber/bullet of choice hog hunting.

It kinda rearranged his anatomy, didn't it?
