Specifically the filter on you AC unit.

It’s usually in the attic or in a closet.

5 dollars a month can really save you a bundle.

Stay cool cheers

Yes every 30-60 days at most. This time if year where we are at, it's dusty.

Mine is $60 per replacement and I do it once per year now that the cat died. Used to be twice per year. All systems are not the same. Neither are the filters. My filter is nearly two square feet and six inches thick for a small house.

Pass the gravy.

Truth. When I had my system replaced at my prior residence, they installed the Aprilaire filter system. You replace the filter annually.

Whatever happened to the electric return systems that would zap dust particles? My parents put one in in '77 and even at the end of Mom's life, when she couldn't do much cleaning, it was amazing how little dust was in that house. I've asked current HVAC guys and they act like they don't know what I'm talking about.

I think the time interval for replacing filters depends on the filter location in addition to number of pets and dust. My return is in the ceiling. It stays cleaner then the one in my previous house that was close to the floor.

Mine are all in the ceiling as well

Isn't it silly to put the return air on the ground? Warm air rises

I buy the cheap filters in bulk, and they still cost more than $5 each. I change mine on the 1st of every month, and it has made a huge difference in the dust situation at my house.

There are a bunch of places online that will ship you your filters on any cadence you want. It's the only way I can remember when FedEx drops them off.

Cheaper than Home Depot as well for better quality filters.

Good reminder…I changed mine on Saturday. At Home Depot if you buy 4, it’s basically the same price as if you buy 2 due to their “bulk buy” discount.

How could my returns be in the ceiling when my unit is in a closet?

Returns in my house in the wall directly under the unit...the only way it could be in this house.

Pass the gravy.

I use Merv 13 filters, sized properly and swapped every 60 days.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Use the AC all the time, and replace as necessary. Don't have any pets, and we generally keep the house closed up. No dust to speak of. Run the Roomba weekly, and get very little residue. Buy in bulk and save money!!
