It has been quite a while since I poked around on THF. I reckon I have been a little busy. Progress is slow but steady on the island. After dry in a year ago I set out to complete the plumbing, electrical and to finish my bedroom first. It make a massive difference to be able to go cook in the makeshift kitchen, take a hot shower, a toilet and a 70 degree bedroom with a comfortable bed. Last year I was sleeping on the porch. I'll tell yall there are choices in some situations that make you ask yourself if wither choice is at all good. By that I mean I had a choice to sleep on the porch because the wind was blowing, or sleep in the house where there was no wind. Well the porch it was. So about 0100 hours the wind slowed and the tetradactyl like swarms of mosquitoes started in on us. So the choice was to completely hide under the Mexican wool blanket and fry from the heat, or take the blanket off and get trounced by the herds of mosquitoes. Didn't matter because the scorpion that got me on my right [censored] cheek made me stop worrying about the heat or the mosquitos.

As of now the plumbing is in place and operable. I have the house wired and it all runs off of a generator. No more 8 extension cords scattered about the house. I designed the wiring to isolate the major appliances such as the fridge and the water heater. I run the house on a 15000 watt gen but it can burn quite a bit of fuel. So I can isolate the appliances by flipping switches. I can plug in my little Honda 2200 into any exterior receptacle and run all the lights and wall receptacles. It only burns a little over a pint an hour and it will run the window unit in my room.

Last week I finally got all of the hurricane clips installed. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

The calf is a story for another time. Note the butt hurt Labrador in the truck. She stayed that way the whole way home.

Hope yall enjoy some of the pics.

Almost there. To be honest. If I had to share my seat with a calf I'd be butt hurt too.

That's the story I'm waiting on...

Yes we have a gutter feeding a 1000 gallon poly tank. Yes that is me putting in the insulation. Yes I lost 60 lbs so far, working on the next 60 lbs. All my life the doctors told me to lose weight. Well we all know how well I took that advice. My little Russian Dr. came in 7 months ago and said "I will not tell you to lose weight, but I will say you're going to effin die" and she just walked out. My numbers were all critically high as in A1C at 12, blood pressure was double, cholesterol at 750 ect. All of my numbers were ok the year before that. Unchecked diabetes was allowed to wreak havoc. Today all of my numbers are normal. My A1c was 6.5. The next time I go to the doctor, we expect to be off of all diabetic medications. I am already off of 3 meds. I want to be one of the few dudes you know that can claim to no longer be called a diabetic. Thank you for noticing.

One particular thing I enjoy about the project is a lot of the materials are second hand. The windows are double pane gas filled vinyl. I salvaged them from when Harvey flooded the house at home. A bunch of the wood was salvaged/reclaimed. Half of the insulation was left behind by a contractor when we rebuilt the house. The only things I bought new off of the shelf was treated 2x6x16s and the 6x6x16 piers and the roof. The rest came from resale lumber shops. The parlor stove I got in an estate sale for 50 bucks. The painted walls you see in the pic with the calf by my bed were free. They are 6 foot cedar fence pickets that I took home, de-nailed, wire brushed and painted. I stacked them out on pallets at home. I can use the tractor at home to load the pallet to the barge. The intent was to unload it with the tractor I have out there. It isnt working so offloading it by hand right now.

The main thing they did to piss me off was not show up in the usual number for the last two years. Opening weekend we whacked em good, after that, not so much.

Yessir. This was an evening moonrise. Million dollar view on a 40,000 budget.

I put a guy on about 60 tailing reds within sight of your house last week. Love that area of the island.
