BS and TDA are correct in that a Tundra has two "cats".

Judd my new “job” is great. Designing restaurants for our company back in the day is my strong suit. Very good at it and really enjoy it. Juices are flowing again.

Buzz, I thought you sold restaurant supplies. Was your job a lot more than that. Did you sell equipment and did you do design work for equip or even for the entire layout. Do you know Dave Shephard? I’m in McKinney at their bakery daily right now so I wish you would swing by. Like to meet you and maybe get some advice.

Factory cat takes months to get. After market it’ll be ready today.
Long story and no time to update y’all but going after market. Very reputable muffler shop gives one year warranty and “they say” never have issues with them.
Question-they can put guard on for $400-what think?
Cop told me last night that a Tundra in a hotel lot will absolutely have cat stolen within days.

"Cop told me last night that a Tundra in a hotel lot will absolutely have cat stolen within days."

I was working in Waco a few months ago and a coworker had the CC stolen off his Tundra in the hotel parking lot. He took it to a muffler shop and they had him fixed up in a couple of hours.

A few years back I went to park my Tundra at The Parking Spot airport off site parking at Hobby in Houston. The upgraded me to covered parking because they were sure somebody would make go for the cats.

Have a nice trip, she said.

I was relieved when I got back and everything was fine. I haven't flown out of Hobby since.

Hopefully the aftermarket Tundra cat doesn't cause it to throw codes.

Tundra issues with aftermarket cats

Good luck!

For all you Toyota guys keep an eye on www.caliraisedled.com, based in Fort Worth they just dropped the Tundra Cat Guards for newer models, and will have the older models out soon. They also have them for 4Runners and Tacomas,

Sorry I haven’t updated. Two scheduled vacations and in between my daughter asked my help on her bakery redo. When I get back from Colo Tues I will have slept in my own bed 3 times out of 28 days.
Anyway, short version is I had aftermarket put on same day and insurance paid. Within an hour check engine light came on. Muffler shop said year warranty so bring it back in. I won’t have time to do that for a weak or more. I’m not worried.
Thanks to several that reached out to help me.

Happened to me last week on a 2022 Ram 1500 classic. Got quoted $10,631.04 for the parts. The thieves were also kind enough to cut the wires going to all four oxygen sensors. Bless their hearts.

Huge issue with Tundras. My mechanic buddy warned me so I put on skid plates. This is a ongoing problem with many trucks as they can get access and cut with sawzall and be gone. Boat Ramps are a target in my neighborhood!!!

Heard same. Cop said-Tundra+hotel= cat gone.
There’s a 3’ section straight pipe on each side easily accessible that includes 4 cats(or kinda cats) and all the sensors. 4 quick sawzall cuts at right places and all is gone in 1.5 minutes.

They caught a shop working out of DFW that was tied to a shop up north that was shipping the cats overseas. Millions and millions of dollars in the stolen business. Think the story was in Texas Monthly but was just a month or two ago when I read the article

I think we all at least know someone who has had a cat stolen and I am now driving a truck that makes mine a target. I know insurance will pay for it, but I don't want to have to go through what freerange just did. I am considering the catstrap and add on exploding dye guard. I don't think I have found one yet that really prevents it, but maybe I can at least make it messy for them if they don't know what that extra run of conduit is for.

Toyota dealership in Prosper installed cat protection plates on my 2021 Tundra. Not full proof but definitely a deterrent and MUCH cheaper than an insurance claim and all the hassle. Thieves want to get in and out very quickly without making a bunch of noise.

That's a resonator in the pic, not a cat.

They busted a big operation in Houston. Same thing. Shipping them to Jersey for export. We all know there are no cooks in Houston or Jersey.

Did you ever get the Tundra to stop throwing codes with the aftermarket cat?

Havent had time to take back to shop. It’s not in my town and super busy. I’ve got 90 days on labor I think and a year on parts. I’ll get it in pretty soon.

The catalyst brick in most aftermarket converters are about half the size of most OE converters. OE programming looks at converter efficiency and will throw a code if they are operating outside of allowed parameters. On large vehicles with large engines you absolutely cannot use a generic converter and expect to be trouble-free. When I worked at Rotary performance we had custom catalytic converters made just for us by an OE manufacturer called Tri D which at the time was one of the largest suppliers of exhaust systems to domestic manufacturers. Ours were the absolute best in the aftermarket and even today there is no comparison.
