Yah ain’t obsolete until Speer stops making the bullet you’re shootin’

Of course with Speer nobody answers the phones or returns emails so maybe they all expired …

Looks like your barrel break in procedure worked just fine!

Ck out the performance of a new "Tipped" bullet for the HAM'R we're developing at Lehigh Defense.

105gr at 2600+ fps, fired bullet was shot from 75yds

I like the looks of that! Hope to see them on the market soon.
Thanks Mr Wilson!

I'm sure if there are pigs to be had you won't be 'shot out' lol. Friend has a off-range Oryx hunt for August, think he might use my Wilson Combat 6.5 Bleedmoor or the 338 Federal. You remember the areas. They are spooky off range, so usually will need a longer shot, if it were me I'd have the 300 HAM'R along if the right opportunity presented itself.

I’m in the market for these as well. When will they be up for sale?

Design is done and tested with polymer tips we machined on CNC lathes (obviously a very expensive way to make them), availability will be determined by when we get molding tooling designed and done. I'd guess December timeframe. This is just one of a new "family" of bullets we're developing. We also have a 150gr for .308/.30-06 finalized too.

It seems like the current trend is for light weight high speed explosive "varmint" bullets. Are there any plans for something like this in the 150 gr range? My goto bullet is the Speer 2022 because I haven't found anything more accurate and to be honest I'm kinda old school in believing the way to go is a slow moving heavy bullet when hunting for meat...although I have to admit kinda liking what a 125 gr TNT does to a hog.

I'm sorry if this has been gone over before....
Is there a variable/setting in GRT that is incorrect that is showing over 60k psi at the starting charge weight for almost every load listed in the most current WC load data?

We're so pressed for powder space in the HAM'R that mfg of the bullet out of solid copper and adding a polymer tip compounds this problem. We have a 120gr Tipped that's testing out well and I think this will be the max weight for a solid copper tipped bullet. Performance in the photo may look like a varmint bullet, but I've shot 5 hogs now with the 105gr and the base has fully penetrated all of them. A couple were 180#+ boars.

I guess maybe I'm confusing weight with size. The same size copper would weigh considerably less than a lead. If only they were as cheap as a TNT...LOL

Hello fellows,

I’ve been following this thread since the beginning. My question is, has anyone been shooting the 16” WC Ultra Light barrel. If so, what kind of accuracy/groups are you getting with it?
I’m wanting to build a lightweight AR and was thinking 11.3” but compared the weights and the 16” ultra is a little lighter without the velocity loss.

I have one and the groups that I get are somewhat comparable with my 16" ranger barrel. Obviously, every barrel is different but they are fairly close in group potential.

Where I do see a difference other than weight is that with a longer string of fire, like firing five, 5 shot groups right after another - the barrel heats up quicker and the groups open up faster. When they do open up, it only changes from about 3/4 minute to about 1 1/4 minute, so it's not a deal breaker in a hunting situation.

I would expect as much, of the group spread coming from the lighter barrel contour. And like you said, it wouldn’t matter in a hunting situation, which this rifle would be set up for.
Thank you sir.

I have one myself and in the real world I don't notice much difference. I think each barrel reacts differently when it comes to getting one "broken in." But they all shoot rather well after putting some rounds down range. Since I don't mount a suppressor, the 16" barrels seem to be a perfect fit for this cartridge.

Good to hear. As a handgun hunter and reloader of the last four decades, I’ve also found, 25-30grs. of powder in a .30 cal. barrel of 16” or less, very efficient.

"reloader of the last four decades" Beginner!!! grin

Just playing. But I was surprised how much more there was to learn about ballistics and reloading once I started playing with the 300 HAM'R.

Loading for so long is probably why I’ve been holding off building another AR in the ham’r. I fine myself now whittling down to fewer calibers because of components. The Ham’r does involve most of what I already have though.

If we are counting.... I have 53 years on the reloading clock. Still learning.

While I have other cartridges, between the 300 Ham'r and the 5.56 there is very little else I need inside of 300 yards. I like shooting everything but there is immense satisfaction from shooting the Ham'r.

"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.
