So, I had a buyer for the Manners stock I have for sale here. Really nice man bought it. I spoke with him and talked about it. I received his Cashier's check and two days later, his daughter called and said he passed away and saw my number in his phone. She called and left a VM saying he died and wanted to know what he and I were working on.

I'm about to call her back and talk. I will send the check back or the stock whichever she wishes. I thought this very sad and weird.

Whatever you do, don't mail the stock for 5-7 days after you deposit the check. Make sure it really, really clears.

What is weird about it? Do you suspect foul play?

Had that happen on a deer lease. Guy toured the place, liked it and wrote a check. Didn't hear anything from him for several weeks and finally the lease boss called his cell phone to see when he would be putting up his stand and feeder and his wife, well I guess technically his widow, answered and said he had passed away about a month ago.

Could be legit but follows the path of a scam, particularly cashiers check.

Sounds pretty sketchy, it wouldn’t even cross my mind to go through a deceased relatives phone asking random people what we had going on. You should have responded with hookers and cocaine and she owed you for 3 happy endings and 12k worth of blow.

I spoke with his daughter this morning. I'm sending her check back. Thank goodness I haven't mailed the stock. Its going back up for one of yall

Check his local newpaper for an obit.

Speaking of bizarre sales.. this reminds me of the one and only time I sold a rifle on gunbroker. When the rifle showed up at the buyers house his wife went ballistic. She tracked down my wife's phone number (Google is scary) and was screaming at her and then me over the phone that I had to take the rifle back and refund him the money because he bought it without her permission. We blocked her and I emailed the guy telling him to get his act together and that the rifle was his problem. It had been sold at a fair price and no refund would be given.

Should have told her that he said it was to shut up his wife.

The only sure things in life are death and taxes. I've had this happen to me a few times in my 23 year career. I do boat and RV loans for a living, and I have had people approved for their loan and then die or get deathly ill before they can complete the purchase.

I sold a gun on here once and was paid in full for it. Guy said he was going to come by and pick it up. After a month or so I text him, not a word. Finally after about 9 months he called, said he forgot about it, he picked it up.

I sold a set of Redding competition dies to a fella on accurate shooter...dude had good feedback and was semi active so I sent them prior to receiving payment. Few weeks went by and I reached out and never heard from him...then about 6 weeks after (I was about ready to drop a negative feedback on his profile) he calls to tell me he was in the hospital and said as soon as he got out he would pay me but he did get them. I think I let it go about 3 months and left negative feedback...about 6 months later I get a call from his daughter saying that he had passed and on the dude's death bed he told her he owed me some money and wanted it paid. She's crying telling me the story. I told her she had enough on her plate not to worry with any of it and she adamantly said he wanted it taken care of...I told her to send the dies, the money or forget it that I was sorry for her loss.

I never heard from her again...fairly inexpensive lesson for me, things happen and don't send stuff until you get the cash. May he RIP...
