Soft shells are good eating, use to watch the Asians fish for them a lot!

It had all it's feet. It was just mud on that foot from me wrestling it up the bank. I caught it at the end of a boathouse dock and had to walk the pole to shore, then wade in to noodle it up onto the bank. No telling how old that guy was. At that size it would have no more predators other than man. I would think it too big and too fast for the local alligators to eat. For the longest I though I had a big flathead on the line.

Hahaha, that's just a tail and it would be a female. The females get much bigger than the males. But your not the first to notice it looks like something else.

My grandfather ate them and snapping turtles out of the Washita River as a young man. I once purposely went out and caught a big snapping turtle and had him teach me how to butcher it. I made a gumbo out of it that was awesome. But never again. It was too much work for the small reward. A great bonding experience with my grandfather and so many stories out of him that day.

Sometimes the effort once is well worth it if for nothing else the memories made . My Grand Father did not eat turtles but if we caught a soft shell he would take it to someone that did. That man would rather have a turtle to eat than fish. I have ate it before and while it was good I look at it as a survival food

That is for sure a big soft shell

I've had many days like that with my papaw, fishing and cleaning fish, or just driving. He always loved to share about his Navy days as a crew chief on the USS Midway. Precious memories.
