Recently purchased a used Sightmark Photon XT, used the existing rings that it came with and mounted it on my AR 5.56 . Finally got around to trying to zero this thing in so that I could take care of some coons that are being a PIA and a few hogs. Long story short, maxed out the elevation adjustment and still about 4" low, got the windage dead on but it is maxed out as well . Any suggestions on what to do ??? Different rail, mounts, shims ??? I have no clue, new to the NV scene and was really disappointed that I didn't get to do harm to those coons. Lol Any advise would be appreciated.

TIA,
Booner

This was a fairly common problem back in the Photon days because there is very little adjustment in the reticle compared to modern digital NV optics. The first thing to do is take the scope out of the rings and move the front ring to the back and the back ring to the font. This just ensures you don't have a bad ring (very unlikely) but if you do, you'll now be maxing the reticle out but you'll be high instead of lwo.

Then very carefully tighten the rings down on the scope carefully at the same time, keeping the scope level. Now shoot again. If you have still have the issue your best bet is going to be to shim the scope inside the rings. You could have a defective scope but they are long out of warranty and production, so you're going to have to get creative to make it work. Shimming it is a very reasonable solution if you can't make anything else work.

Good luck!

You may want to try Burris Signature Zee 30MM rings. They have plastic inserts that can be used to adjust POI. I have used them on several of my rifles and they work very well. They are available for several different style bases including picatinny/weaver.

Take it apart and mount the rings first and tighten them at base then set the scope in place and tighten.
That is what the factory told me and it worked for me - they also suggested TALL rings which helped my cheek weld.

Edit: This was with an early Photon 5X and it's still killing pigs.
