Thanks for the heads up...time to study the maps and mebbe travel for a looksee at some places I've not seen in many a year. Gotta find a new hunting partner, with the last lease & travel partner greeting His Maker out of the wild old fart bunch I ran with....I'm turning 78 this year and all of those guys were waaaay past that, as I was the young sprout hunter in age in our loose group or hunt alone again. Not as much fun for sure. Ron

I am awaiting response from TPWD in regards to a question I had about the big time hunts for mule deer, I always enter the big time hunts for them but have a mule deer hunt booked for December and needing to know if the big time hunts are on MLD tags or if you must use your license tag ? Either way I will be making my yearly donation.

Put in for the couple I usually do. This is my year for bighorn, I can feel it. (Last year they didn't let you apply for bighorn until September. 'Wonder what's changed?)

I like to see the prior year hunt statistics breakdown before I apply for most hunts.

I like to see the prior year hunt statistics breakdown before I apply for most hunts. I've noticed a couple issues so far. #1 being that the previous years stats are not last years. They are from the 21'-22' season still. #2 is that on some of the youth hunts it is only showing 1-1 applicants. Problem is an adult has to be on the application. So I put my daughter and I and it says too many applicants. If I only put her it kicks back and says they must be an adult on the application. I'm going to give them some time but if it's not fixed in a week or so, I'll call.

Why are they not releasing any stats on last year's draw hunts?

Historically, the harvest statistics spreadsheet has been dated/posted the week after the booklet is online. I think we are just a couple days early, but they should be posted soon (I hope).

Why are they not releasing any stats on last year's draw hunts? Because they haven't posted them yet. Same thing happened last year.

The percent success numbers in the book look different from the harvest survey of 21-22 as far as I can tell. But the delay in getting that info on the website is weird. There's a conspiracy I'm sure. Ready to win!

There's a conspiracy I'm sure. Ready to win! I've looked at the TPWD success stats for years and they would usually be different from the book. For the deer hunts I think the book would count non-target species (like pigs) towards total success. (10 hunters killed 5 deer and 5 pigs for 100% success) The success spreadsheet would only show 50% success because 10 hunters killed 5 deer. Or it could be one huge conspiracy and TPWD is trying to screw us out of our money.

I personally wouldn't put too much stock in the success rates. From what I've personally observed on two tpwd drawn hunts, a lot of folks don't put much effort into their hunt.

Also on the TPWD success statistics, I've been on hunts where they reported 100% success and I know less animals were killed than the total number of hunters.
Now most of the hunts I've done, I've had an opportunity to kill something.
