Found this fresh kill in my yard this morning. Was torn clean in two! Not a whole lot of sign that it was eaten at all. Also no sign of a fight of any kind other than the body. No fur or blood from another animal. I dont think kitty got a shot off at all.
This is a suburban area but I have seen bobcats more than once as well as coyotes, skunks, coons and possum. Not common but they are around.
My best guess is bobcat. I think a yote would have eaten it and/or carried it off. I have heard bobcats will kill them just because they see them as competition for food supplies. I suppose it could have been a stray dog but I have not seen a stray or heard of one, especially one that had nocturnal precision cat killing on its 4th of July to do list.
This cat is a stray from a litter born in the area this spring. I have seen it on my security cameras many times usually between 1 and 3am. This was out of range of the cameras so no tape to review.
Must have been two of something. Plenty of dogs being allowed to run loose in suburbia these days. I love dogs but equally hate those that kill just for the sake of it.

Yeah that makes sense. To pull it apart like that. What would explain the intestine being like that as well.
A buddy I texted more graphic pics to suggested it might be human. I dont lean that way for a few reasons.
One this cat I have seen before several times. He is not tame, this is feral cat, and it wont come to people. Also this is his hunting area, his Area of Operations, so for him to get caught slipping by something where he was... not shocking.
For a human to nab the non tame cat, hit with a machete and then place it there? Does not quite add up. Now had it been a cat I had never seen before, that might make me think this was the dump site not the kill site, and human comes into play. Also did not see any bullet hole or other trauma that would suggest anything other than this kitty here was torn in half.
When my dogs catch a cat on my place this is how they leave it. Then they get petted on and a treat.

They kill for fun. I have had to kill one bobcat that learned to get my chickens in broad daylight, other than that I’ve had to take out 4 dogs for killing livestock.

That is good to know. You have seen dogs leave a cat like that?
Also to the gentleman who suggested I let animal control know, I filed a report online just to give them a heads up. Turns out that portal I filed it in is public, so they have to post a reply of some type. Be curious what their thoughts are...
A large dog can easily 'shake' a small cat in half.
Ding ding ding.
I reported my findings and got a prompt call back from the on duty Animal Control Officer who was certain this was done by a dog. Does not have to be two dogs, likely was not two. He said a dog will grab the cat up side ways and shake it back and forth like you see them do a toy or a rag, but the prey drive kicks in hard and they do it 10X harder then they ever did when you play that "game" with them... that results in what you see in that picture. Two halves without signs of being eaten at all.
Yote he said would have eaten it or at least carried a piece of it off. So in case of a yote you might find the front half at the scene and other half 50 yards off partially eaten. For it to all be there, is the tell tale of a domestic dog.
Bobcat he said would have been all punctures to the neck and they would not make it into two pieces like that, unless they were going to eat it, which they usually dont. He confirmed what I heard that the motive for bobcats killing domestic cats seems to be not predatory but more protective of the hunting area. Bobcat see's the house cat as something also trying to get his food sources...
I had a dog that would would leave other dogs like that. No doubt a cat is easy game as stated. He didn’t like dogs, cowboy hats, or … well, there was something else I can’t quite recall.
