Last week my wife had taken off her wedding ring while loading the dish washer. It ain't much, when I bought it I barely had a pot to pizz in and I kind of like that it reminds me of our humble start. Well, one of the ahole cats knocked it down the kitchen sink and she didn't notice. She turned on the disposal and immediately knew what she was hearing. Luckily I was able to pull it all apart and find the diamond. Man, I forgot how tiny that thing is LOL. The ring itself is in pretty bad shape too.
She was understandable torn up about it but it gave me an idea. I'd like to take the old ring and diamond and have it "reworked" or whatever the jeweler term is. Melt it down and use the original diamond as a secondary part of a bigger one or something like that. Problem is, I don't know a dang thing about jewelry. I haven't been back to one since I got that ring 27 years ago and I don't wear any myself other than the same wedding band. Is that something that can be done? Can any jeweler do that kind of thing? Any recommendations? TIA

If you do not mind a bit of a drive to Granbury, friends of mine own Troy Vinson Jewelers and they are fantastic to work with in my experience. Master Jewelers on staff and they can probably do about anything you wish. Troy retired and they closed the Hulen location, but his son Curt manages the Granbury location, so locally owned. Look em up!

Nasr brothers. I believe they have locations in Denton, Highland Village, and Rockwall. Guy in Denton does top notch work. Can’t speak for the others.

These guys do work like that. I had my grandmother's diamond made into my wife's engagement ring and they did a great job. Completely custom ring. They also made her diamond wedding band. They are appointment only, so kind of a pain, but were great to work with. https://www.belladiamanti.com/

I have a guy I have been using for 25 years, South African dude in Dallas, no store front but true custom jeweler and diamond cutter type deal. When you go to his office you will see 1 or 2 people actually cutting diamonds and stuff there onsite. He will make any custom jewelry as well, he has done a few things for me and I have bought diamonds from him. His office is in Addison now, I’ll send you a Pm.

Just an idea but when I upgraded my wife’s wedding ring I had the old Diamond mounted on a pendant for a necklace for her.

I used Arlington Gold and Silver....have done a ton of business with them over the years and have always been super happy. The wife loves her new ring and we had the old center diamond turned into a necklace and saved the old bands for my daughters.

I used NASR brothers in Denton to do exactly what you need a few years back. They knocked it out of the park. You’ll be a hero when it’s done and dusted…. And I’m sure you wifey is worth it. She’s put up with you for more than a quarter century

Thanks y'all! I will be contacting these folks. I like the idea of making a necklace pendant out of he old one. Glad I asked! I wanna say I paid around $800. I know it was under $1k but it's been a long time and many beers ago.
