Hate to hear that. I saw him play when he was in high school. He was a man among boys.

Started at Michigan, then transferred to Arkansas. Started a couple years. Drafted by Patriots, think he played for Ravens. Drowned near Destin.

At one time he was a sure fire talent to be watched

Someone help, Rolltide....wasnt he from somewhere on the Tx/Ark border?

A friend of mine of is a long time NTX high school football coach and I remember him telling me that Ryan Mallet was probably the most talented football player he ever had in front of him

Well he was the national #2 rated QB out of Texas Ark High his senior year behind Matthew Stafford of Highland Park. He did push Stafford in playoff game, losing 38-31 in a shootout in Stafford's undefeated state champion senior season. Stafford also beat Jevan Snead and Stephenville in a playoff shootout after, 41-38.

Arkansas was good his senior season. I remember they only lost to Auburn and Alabama. Auburn won NC that year.
I remember because they played in sugar bowl against Ohio state. Ohio State had never beat SEC in a bowl game. They beat Arkansas, but had to forfeit the win for violations.

Number 4 overall prospect. Cam Newton was 28th.

Dude almost got me arrested in college. Came to one of my house parties way out in the woods outside of New Boston, Tx and parked his truck in the middle of the county road I lived on. Neighbors called the sheriff because they couldn’t get to their house a quarter mile down the road.. Of the 200 or so people at the party most were underage, but once the deputies figured out whose truck it was, they just told everyone to get out of there and go home. Sheriffs dept ended up coming back out a few hours later that night (most kids came back to the party within an hour) because of a noise complaint from same neighbors. Ended up having to pour out all of our alcohol and warned that if they had to come back they’d round up everyone they could and haul them in haha. Good times.
Wasn’t ever a fan of his, but hate to see this happen. RIP

I saw a story that like 10 others have died in Florida in two weeks from “rip currents”. I always tell the family if you feel yourself getting pulled out, just go with it. We will get you later.

Ironic that Arkansas great Peyton Hillis damn near died at the same place a few weeks back.

SIL's 29 year old partner and the primary brains of the engineering operation fell off his tube and drowned in the San Marcos River on a Saturday about three weeks ago. Found his body the next day.

Not sure if rip currents are any worse these days than in years past or it's just a matter of more people swimming in the Gulf who have no idea of what ocean currents can do. There are also those who surprisingly don't know how to swim. I have a SIL who is a good example of that. I can easily see how someone never learns to swim as a kid and eventually becomes ashamed to admit it as an adult. And then there are those who have very minimal swimming skills who simply find themselves unprepared mentally and physically to swim out of a rip current.

General comments not necessarily directed at this incident.

he was from Texarkana, he played for Texas High, then when he went off to college he listed his hometown as Texarkana Arkansas lol.

He was the best high school football player I've ever seen.

I remember watching him in pregame warm ups, standing flat footed on the 50 yard line and throwing the ball through the uprights 60 yards away and had room to spare. RIP

I think there are more folks traveling and with that the number of incidents increase. Look up queens bath in Hawaii, as they city leaders have done everything possible to warn and prevent folks from going down there and they still fo. I saw a TikTok the other day if a father and daughter down there in the water. Foolishness
