Probably a better way to go than suffering for 4 days sitting next to titanic, freezing, and running out of oxygen... They were 1 hr and 45 minutes into it, so they were almost there when it imploded.

Canadian ROV found the tailcone external structure and additional debris consistent with catastrophic failure of the pressure vessel. Sounds like it was quick for them.

They were 1 hr and 45 minutes into it, so they were almost there when it imploded. That's when communications were lost, not necessarily when imploded. If the sonar detected banging the past two days was them, then the implosion happened either late yesterday or today maybe when their oxygen depleted. So, they very possibly were in despair for multiple days before imploding. The implosion itself would be quick, the time counting down would be fleeting and mentally discouraging and harrowing.

Carbon Fiber having almost no ductility (it is brittle) probably offered NO forewarning of failure. So everything (matter or energy) capable of being compressed under 5000+ psi....was done so in a fraction of a second. IMO Carbon Fiber was a poor choice of materials to use. The shape of the vessel also concerned me. Carbon Fiber is very difficult to spot flaws in or assess stress damage. The fact that the vessel had previously made deep dives was NOT affirmation that it was 'sound' but rather it was being weakened each venture down. This is a sad tale of a man with too much ambition and not enough caution. Mother Nature is famous for tempering such egos/foolishness (you pick). God rest their souls and may He give comfort and strength to the family's left behind.

I read yesterday that they relied on acoustic signatures to detect failures during testing rather than NDE scanning likely due to cost and logistics of scanning something that large. I can tell you firsthand that detecting flaws in carbon fiber composites is VERY difficult and somewhat subjective even to level 3 certified inspectors. If they were willing to cut that corner, there’s no way that vessel was properly fatigue tested for cycling pressures of that magnitude…. The statistical knockdowns required by any competent aerospace structures group to certify that with any reasonable degree of confidence … let’s just say it’s a big reduction from what’s actually sustained during test and even more of a knockdown if based on simulation analysis (and not real life test data).

What is the stupid draw that makes one want to see this damned boat? I get the story and understand the passion, but to risk life and limb just for a look?? I'm out. Leave that rusting heap to its demise.

I believe the body was rated for 13,000 ft below sea level but the tail piece and viewing widow was only rated for4,500 ft. If they were a buck 40 into a two hour dive, maybe that would put them at about 10,000 feet. That is twice the tail piece rating.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

If it imploded what were the SOS signals they were getting? Anyone's guess. All of that is very sketchy to begin with. All indications (location of debris field) point to an implosion in the 'water column' (upon decent) not later on the ocean floor. An implosion at that depth with that type of vessel would have been instantaneous. No one was beating an SOS on the hull. If the vessel was being properly monitored....I am surprised sonar or transducers didn't reveal a cavitation signature when the vessel failed. It would have been known right then....what had happened.

Just bring up the titanic, or what’s left of it. Before it all is gone. If they coudn't reach this submarine, that would be a big chore to bring up the ship 2miles under.

Tragic for the loss of lives for sure. They took a risk, and unfortunately paid the price with their lives. My question is, how much did the rescue operation cost. Not to be cold blooded, but they knew the possibility’s….
