Just had a guy on tv that knows 3 of the 5 in the sub. You can see it in his face that it's over. Best case is it is sitting on the floor. Realistically, I think the craft was compromised and imploded due to pressure. He said it was a new machine that hadn't really been tested...IIRC Didn't look it up. But a one foot tall column of water is .434 psi. .434 X 12,500 = 5425 psi

6000 lbs. of pressure per square inch is what the expert reported.
Looks very bad.

I don’t what I’d rather pay for, a civilian submarine trip to the Titanic or a civilian space flight to who knows where.
Both seem extremely risky, but worth the experience. The submarine scares me more so I’d probably chose that one

Both seem extremely risky, but worth the experience. The submarine scares me more so I’d probably chose that one I'd happily do the space flight. Humanity has well over half a century of experience in building spaceworthy craft, and if there's a breach, there's some chance to seal it and recover. Spring a leak at 12,000 feet down and you get crushed like a styrofoam coffee cup.

They have been dead since about 1/20th of a second after the main ship lost contact with them. Composite materials are very strong until they are not strong. The tiniest void in the fibers that did not get filled with epoxy can be the intrusion path for water to get into the vessel. The moment Integrity is lost the vessel will collapse nearly instantaneously squishing everything inside of it into goop before they even know that it happened.

This is not going to end well and now if they don't find some evidence quickly will become the next biggest underwater search in history since the Titanic. Agree with others that pressure was the cause.

I looked at the build specifications for the submersible vehicle. It is a composite tube with a domed cap on each end made out of titanium. In all likelihood the joint between the dome and the composite body failed.

I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing a few composite part structural tests, and when they fail it is rapid and spectacular… there is no slow yielding or deformation like metals.

And how many millions are we going to spend on this private moneymaker endeavor? I’d rather see it spent on this than handed out to a bunch of ungrateful criminals.

And how many millions are we going to spend on this private moneymaker endeavor? Cases like this push the envelope for technology and spending money on the search teaches the people doing the search a whole lot and it is worth doing the same way the military doing training maneuvers is worthwhile.

So, Russia and China know that we'll send a nuclear sub to the area. They'll get more out of this than we will.

Not sure if this link will work but my wife sent it after I told her about the sub disappearing last night.... https://www.instagram.com/reel/CtsiWzUgoCb/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D https://www.instagram.com/reel/CtsiWzUgoCb/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D

So, Russia and China know that we'll send a nuclear sub to the area. They'll get more out of this than we will. A nucular submarine wouldn't be terribly useful in this circumstance. A destroyer or any other vessel utilized in anti-submarine Warfare would be more useful. China has a Navy that can barely get out of the China Sea, and they cannot resupply at sea like the US Navy can and the Russians are so broke they can't afford to do much on the oceans.

The sub was partly constructed from composites. one tiny imperfection or damage and it's game over.

They don’t even know where it’s at. Unfortunately, there’s not much of any chance they will survive.

Very true, even if they were on the bottom of the ocean where it’s supposedly 36 degrees could they survive this long without hyperthermia taking them out? I’m guessing they died the moment communication was lost but it would probably have been the best case scenario IMO. I’d prefer an immediate death over suffocating or freezing in the bottom of the ocean.

Diesel engines have a static compression ratio that typically averages about 22 to 1 and that is enough to start combustion with no other point of ignition. The compression ratio between the ambient water pressure and the interior of the vessel is close to 400 to 1. I would love to do an experiment that has high speed photography showing exactly what happens when a vessel collapses under high pressure. I suspect you would see a bubble of flame between the size of a volleyball or a softball from a pressure vessel this size.

The idea of death or how long it takes isn’t what bothers me, the idea of being a vegetable or quadriplegic the rest of my life and burden on others is what bothers me.
