Just picked one up on my way to Paris at Sally’s Produce and I think they blow Pecos cantaloupes away. I’m going to wait until the cold I have is gone to eat it because right now I really can’t taste anything.

Smell like hot dumpster juice and don't taste much better. No thanks.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Folks in Rocky Ford, Colorado might have something to say about those Pecos cantaloupes.
Don't care for them myself either.

Smell like hot dumpster juice and don't taste much better. No thanks. 🤣🤣 Absolutely! This. Cannot stand almost any melon. Loupes taste ungood, but it's also a texture thing with me too.

What happened to Pecos melons? That used to be a big deal, but I never see them anymore. Even when I’m working in Pecos, I don’t see them. No roadside stands, ads, or islands in the grocery stores.

I see those are from Coyanosa. That’s an odd little patch of irrigated desert that grows quite a bit of produce.

Just spoke to Sally's and she says they are 6 dollars each. Can you confirm that? That is what I paid. From what I have been told they grow their own somewhere in Collin county. They had a produce stand off of Hwy 380 in Princeton for years and about three or so years ago they either sold the land or the owner did to make a DQ. I just found them again by chance last year. When they had the stand in Princeton I could tell if they had cantaloupe because I could smell them when I drove past. The are 9 to 10 miles north of Commerce on 24 on the left hand side.

She said they are grown in Farmersville. I am curious what the HEB price will be this year. We picked this box up at the farm for $25 a dozen

I remember coming through the Pecos area on summer vacations in the late 70’s and early 80’s, my mom always stopped and bought a few from the roadside stands. Stunk the car up for the last 5 hour drive home.

But I will get a few when they show up at HEB. Watermelon prices are about double at HEB. Will be interesting how the cantaloupes are priced!
