That deer was aged at 12-13 years old when killed. We had him on camera for years.

I agree, "impressive" would not be the best word to describe them. Its kind of like when someone posts a pic of a 180" deer and someone says "nice" deer......
Im not sure the best term for "super" big deer and to some degree it would depend on who was saying it and their expectation level.

Y'all have done some fantastic managing. Very impressive.

Dang TLK I'd seen some of your pics before, but holy cow these are jaw dropping! If anything like these rolled out on our lease I'd probably be too shocked to put one down. I know you've put in a lot of hard work over the years tho, so hopefully folks take that as inspiration and appreciation as opposed to the ol' "must be nice".

Thanks for the comments - we ran across this place 15 years ago. The previous hunters were great guys but did not manage real hard - they limited their feeding program and had mostly taken 150-160 inch deer - when I got it the LO was ready to go all in as I was - they put in water pilas all over the ranch which was a huge improvement. Meanwhile we bumped up the feeding program, initiated a hard core culling program (took lots of does, inferior 4 year old and older bucks, and very strict on no trophies taken prior to being at least 6 years old.)

More important than that we implemented a pretty lengthy but common sense set of rules. Then we did our best to find the best lease members possible - we screened every potential hunter carefully. There have been a few members who did not work out but overall we have been blessed with guys who are patient and follow the program and rules. We are very open about sharing videos and pictures with all members and there is a common respect for each other. Cannot tell you how many huge bucks I (and others) have passed up so that another member could take him as their best deer. I get just as much pleasure out of that as shooting the buck myself.

It is a slow process but within the first two years of leasing the place we began seeing significant improvement in the bucks. The ranch also has a great mixture of natural forbs. I have thought for years that the natural forbs are the key (in good rain years) but when there is no rain then that is where the supplemental feed comes into play. So end of the day the secret is there is no secret. Just common sense management on a ranch that has great LO's.

Says a lot about you and other members that pass deer to let someone else hunt and harvest the deer as their best deer. You won’t find many people from my experience that will do that. Always baffles me how stupid people can get over deer with a large set of antlers.

Thank you Sir - cannot tell you how many of our members have killed their trophy while I am in a stand on the lease - I cannot get down out of my stand fast enough to go be with them while they recover their buck - lots of tears are shared and moments I will never forget for sure - would not trade it for anything - someday when I am sitting in a nursing home I will remember each of those moments
