i have tried digging holes and putting in soured corn. i tried pig out, hog wild, etc... they dont seem to come around at any set pattern or for the food. they dont even come in to the protein feeder all the time. sometimes i can go a full 1000lbs of protein and not see them. now lately, they seem to be coming to the tank in the darkness, but still no real pattern. stalking them is not really an option as i dont think they are staying on my place, but passing thru. any thoughts on how to get a shot at one or do i just need to be patient and hope to see them during deer season.

that appears to be open country, I would have to make a few drive-thrus with a spotlight, but that is just the east texas coming out in me.

good idea. it is actually fairly thick. my tank, where the camera is, happens to be mostly oak pasture, but we have a lot of mesquite and some cedar too.
we have done multiple spotlights for coons, for the game surveys, etc.. and never once have we spotted a hog at night. it is odd. and that is across all 2,000 acres. my place is only 117 of that.

on 117 acres u wont see hogs all that often, but u will come up on em sooner or later. if i had that place, id go out with the spotlight whenever i got a chance. hogs take a lil while to figure out how to spot em at night. 9 times out of 10, u wont see their eyes. but if u can find em, most of the time u will get a shot. good luck!

I hate that about hogs... I usually just scan fast and pick up on eyes, but they actually require a little concentration. I haven't come up on many herds of them at night, but have found plenty boars out roaming my themselves. Heck some of them let you drive up to them and shoot them using the headlights.

You don't have a real problem. Put a fence around your feerdes and they will probably start disappearing.

other than my protein feeder, they really dont bother my feeders. the deer and exotics get all the corn long before the hogs ever come around.
i dont think we have a lot of hogs on the ranch anyway... yet... but i still want to put some pork in the freezer

I would agree with the spotlight. Are you driving when you spotlight? If they are around, they could be just fading back into some brush, or even just laying down until they hear the pickup leave and then coming back out. Maybe try walking with a portable light instead? The whole pattern thing is frustrating. When you figure it out, let me know.

Try this it works great if you camp on the place dureing hunting season . Or camping there anytime. Take a 55gal drum and knock holes around the base with a 3# hammer. At the lid end drill two 1 inch holes and run a 20ft chain threw it and around a tree. Pick a tree you dont mind killing.Sour some corn and put it in the Barrel. AT night while your standing around camp chewing the fat you will hear the the ractet as they push that thing around to get the sour cornout. Put some loose bolts and steel in the barrel to add noise. Then go down there and shoot the chet from them. Its like a big pig toy.

Spotlight would work, but youll be up all night. All your pics here are early in the morning. You would probably do good to set out some traps. Then start getting in the stand well before daylight everday and just be patient.

Another suggestion is to take a piece of four or six inch pvc pipe that is capped on one end and a screw on cap on the other and drill some holes just big enough for corn to drop out. Take That pvc pipe and tie it with rope to a t post this will also act as a toy and food source for your hogs. Fill it half way with corn and enjoy.

Friend of mine takes 5-gallon buckets, drills a hole in the bottom for a piece of 3/4" PVC, hangs the bucket from a tree branch with rope and fills it. Toss corn below it, and when they bump the PVC, more corn will spill out in a controlled fashion.
Works for him.

Some times they come through on a fairly regular schedule. I see them every 3 days at one location.

Try hunting with a spotlight and dogs. I often kill hogs when spotlighting for coons just because the dogs catch the scent and pin them down. Lately i have been getting at least 3 hogs a night whenever I go hunting at night.
